Clowne Town 2nds secure first win of the season!
19th june 2004
played at West Hallam

Clowne went into this game searching for there first win of the season. The captain again winning the toss put the home side into bat, on what turned out to be quite a lively track. J Fellows and P Linacre were given the new ball, and it was Fellows who got the first break through in the 5th over, getting M Tatler caught at 2nd slip by Thompson for 4. This brought T Windley to the crease to join R Palfryman and together started to build a good total. The captain decided that a change of bowling was needed to break the partnership, so he introduced Matthew (cant bowl down hill) Linacre to the attack, but found his first spell tough especially having to run around his bottom lip to bowl. After a good opening spell from P Linacre, G Long was given the ball to bowl his first spell of the season (who incidentally had to dig his cricket bag up from Clowne church yard, recover his bat from the wood shed and fish his whites out of Donna’s duster bag) to play. It was G long who got the much needed break through in the 22nd over getting T Windley caught and bowled for 44. A Frost 0, B Bostock 1, R Goulding 0, were all removed by the double act of G Long caught P Thompson in quick succession. Wickets started to fall at regular intervals P Daws was the next to go caught at cover by G White of the bowling of Fellows for 7, who was soon followed by D Ince caught of the bowling of Fellows for 0. Matthew (can bowl uphill) Linacre was brought back and removed the pick of the batsmen R Palfryman 55 caught by G White, then removed D Ince’s middle stump for 0. Clowne failed to get the final wicket which left W Hallam on 149 for 9. J Fellows 14-3-26-3 P Linacre 8-1-29-0 M Linacre 9-0-47-2 G Long 11-1-34-4 M Barton 4-1-9-0

149 for 9

West Hallam Fancied there chances of a victory, with the wicket still being lively and there opening pace attack of Goulding and Windley. It was Goulding who got the break through in the 3rd over removing P Bennett caught at mid-off again for 0. Goulding was also responsible for the departure of P Linacre caught for 5. M Linacre was joined by G Long, and together got Clownes run chase underway, until Linacre was bowled by Windley in the 14th over for 17, who was soon followed by R Bennett 1 caught of the bowling of Ince. G White joined Long and gave good support for 11 overs, until he found A Frost at cover of the bowling of R Ling for 2. P Thompson 0, caught of the bowling of M Hill and M Barton 0, bowled by Ling gave little support to Long. P Osborne joined Long in the middle, Long took up the challenge, before being bowled by Goulding for an excellent 80, which left P Osborne 12* and Mk Osborne 4* to get the winning runs, to register Clownes first and much needed win of the season. R Goulding 11-3-38-3 and R Ling 7-2-26-2 were the pick of the bowlers for W Hallam.
