Spital Vs Clowne
06/06/04
at hasland park

on a very warm day in Hasland, Clowne got off to the best possible start when the skipper won the toss and elected to field. Spital opened the batting with Caunt(32) and Jones(8) and they got to a reasonable start thanks to a few cross bat shots which would look more accustom on a golf course. The opening bowlers of Linacre(10-0-47-1) and Fellows(9-1-36-3) ended their spells wicketless but kept it very tight before a double bowling change saw the introduction Mallen(6-0-17-1) and Adam “elmer fudd” White(10-0-35-2). And White struck in his first over, removing Jones thanks to a good catch from Hendley. After checking chris’s fingers for any damage, the game continued with Caunt being joined at the crease by Horton. After giving the Clowne mid week side a bit of tap, much was expected of Horton. However, just as he was getting into full flow, White struck again thanks to a catch from Fellows in the deep. Not to be outdone, Mallen clean bowled Caunt. Womble(5-0-46-1) was then brought on and bowled the new batsman, Worthy(6), a lovely loopy full toss. However, all worthy could do was pat it back into the waiting hands of Womble. Higgingbottom(52) took a shine to Josh and the ball was flying to all parts. A good challenge for the young spinner which unfortunately the batsman won. Another double bowling change saw Fellows and Linacre re-introduced and the wickets began to tumble as Spital went into slog mode. Fellows clean bowled Higgingbottom and Atkin(26) and took a third wicket, the one of Jones(8), thanks to a great catch in the deep by Graham “Velcro hands” White. Linacre then bowled Lester(7) and the innings was over with Horton(1) and Johnson(5) finishing not out.

Spital 204-8

After stocking up and some food and much needed fluids, Clowne opened the batting with Bennett(19) and Hendley(0). Clowne made a good start with 10 coming from 2.5 overs, from the bat of the attacking Bennett. On the last ball of the 3rd over however, Hendley padded a ball through to the keeper. Spital went up in appeal and ‘the cat’ felt there was a bit of bat in it and out went a very disgruntled Hendley. Spencer(29) then came to the crease and joined Bennett, who was still trying to take the attack to the Spital bowlers. Bennett was run out by Jones trying to pinch a quick single and the vice captain strolled out the crease to join Spencer. Both batsman continued the good rate of scoring before Spencer was bowled by Johnson(10-0-29-1). Holmes joined A.White at the crease and the two looked as though they were seeing it like a beach ball. They were both playing some super shots and the Spital bowlers were no match for the Clowne batsmen who were in full flow. They saw us home with 3 overs to spare. Holmes made a suberb 103 not out and White finished on 47 not out. Not a bad century for a “Junior”(yes, they really did think chig was a junior) and a batsman with “only one shot”. The other bowlers used were Jones(9-0-64-0), Worthy(4-0-29-0), Caunt(8-0-43-0) and Horton(7-0-40-0) Well played boys!!

Clowne 205-3
