Clowne Town V Ilkeston
12/06/04
Played at Clowne
On an overcast day, and managing to get four bowlers together for the first time this season, the captain had no hesitation in putting the visitors in to bat after winning the toss. The reward soon came, after P Burrows and A Ashton had put on a brisk 21, Ashton went LBW to Fellows for 13 in the 5th over. The snake soon got his second victim when D Cross spooned a shot straight to cover for 2. The bowlers seemed to be on top, with a good opening spell from M Linacre but with little reward. This brought D Keys into the attack for the first time this season, and it looked like he’d never been away, but the new batsman M Savage had other ideas, and with a few cross batted heaves moved the score on quickly to 46 before Burrows chopped on for 16 from the bowling of Keys. P Andrews was soon removing his pads back in the pavilion after a fine one handed catch at 1st slip by Bennett P of the bowling of Keys for 11. J Kinsey came into the attack and in his 3rd over he finally managed to pitch a ball and removed Savage bowled for 41, leaving the visitors on 84 for 5. B Searle and D Pheasant decided to try and put themselves back into the driving seat and built up a good partnership until Pheasant holed out to Kinsey off the bowling of Keys for 47, J Fernside 21* gave good support to Searle 68*, and took them to 233 for 6 declared from 43 overs. Bowling figures J Fellows 12-2-34-2 M Linacre 10-1-38-0 D Keys 11-2-52-3 J Kinsey 5-0-61-1 S Houghton 4-0-25-0 P Thompson 1-0-17-0
Ilkeston 233-6 declared
Ilkeston after a good batting display, and having 49 overs to bowl were looking for that early break through, and it came in the 3rd over when P Bennett tamely picked out mid off, from the bowling of Burrows for 4. M Linacre and J Kinsey started to put bat on ball and looked in little danger from the opening bowlers until Kinsey got stuck in his crease and got bowled off his pads by Burrows for 12. S Houghton was next in and after a few play and misses started to find the middle of the bat, but with 2 overs to go before drinks Houghton was bowled from the bowling of C Trueman snr for 14. G White came to the crease and with the required run rate slowly increasing tried a pull shot but miss judged the bounce and got bowled by Trueman snr for 5. With the overs slowly running out, and the wickets not falling quick enough Ilkeston decided to experiment with a few bowling changes, which paid off when J Fernside had P Osborne Caught for 13, M Linacre was soon following him back to the pavilion with an excellent knock of 39, caught behind off Burrows. P Thompson and R Bennett came together and cautiously pushed the total towards the 150 for the extra batting point, until Bennett was bowled with 3 overs to go by D Pheasant for 8 and with the score on 143 for 7, but with a couple of lusty blows by Thompson, gained us the extra point, P Thompson 31* and Mk Osborne 2* the innings coming to an end at 156 for 7. Bowling figures P Burrows 14-5-28-3 C Trueman jnr 8-1-28-0 C Trueman snr 13-4-29-2 B Searle 4-0-18-0 D Pheasant 6-1-24-1 J Fernside 2-1-4-1 D Cross 1-0-9-0 R Davey 1-0-5-0.
