Clowne v Clipstone
6th June 04
At Clowne
Clipstone won the toss and elected to bat on a hot sunny day. New boy Jon baker opened and clean bowled the opener Shepherd. M Curley cane to the crease and set about the bowling scoring well in a partnership of 57 before Simpson fell to Clarkson. This brought I Pastell to bat and although he looked in trouble on several occasions also scored freely both passing 50 putting on a stand of 112 before Pastell was bowled round his legs by Greveson. Curley was dismissed by a brilliant stumping by Lawton and not happy to have fallen for a good 86. The rest fell for just 21 as A Wright had consecutive wicket maidens and Stu Houghton and Tony Cook both pitched in a couple each. A hard effort by all in the conditions.
203 all out
Linacre and Steers opened and Dale wanted to win the match the first over with a good 4 and a 6 out of the ground. However disaster in the 2nd over as Linacre edged to gully area and fell for 4. Parker came and went for 0 but Lowton was in form and batted for a well-deserved 19. His form is getting better by the game. Greveson fell for 5 bowled trying to defend (not his style but needs must) Houghton played well dispatching a brilliant straight 6 and getting as fantastic 33 before going for the big heave ho and getting bowled. At the other end Steers was getting on the task in spectacular form smashing the ball hard bit high on occasions. He past 50 with ease but 0n 85 played one to many big hits and was brilliantly caught by young S Curley( 10 4’s 2 6’s) The rest tried in vein to score the needed 40 runs but fell short by 23 in a true battling style
