Clowne v Cuckney
30th May 2004
At Clowne

Cuckney won the toss and elected to bat on a damp but firm strip. The 14-year-old Antcliffe twins opened with Steers and Greveson beginning the attack. Steers was fast and aggressive but the openers were able to bat competently and dealt with the fierce onslaught of Dale. Greveson was much slower but tighter at the other end. 10 overs gone 0 for 33. Gaz Wood and Tony Cook took the attack on but both were unsuccessful Wood 3-0-25-0 and Cook 4-0-16-0 Up stepped Rachael Gibbs and had J Antcliffe caught by Stu Houghton first ball. She continued to bowl well but the Cuckney boys were upping the pace and she finished with reasonable figures of 4-1-15-1. S Houghton was also bowling well the other end returning 4-0-25-0 Steers and Greveson returned. Dale tried fast, very fast, my god I didn’t even see that, fast but couldn’t take a wicket today finishing on figures that do not tell the story of his good bowling 10-0-37-0 Greveson mixed line and length and bowled the other opener T Antcliffe after he played on a rising ball with a bottom edge for a splendid well batted 75. Greveson had Porterhouse caught behind by M Lowton then clean-bowled Bostock finishing with a respectable 10-1-30-3. John Hendley and young Twigg finished the overs with twiggy having Searstone stumped by M Lowton. A hard fought effort by all with M lowton again keeping well.

Cuckney 180 for 5.

It was decided to go for the target so Steers and I Twigg went out to score runs. Twigg was hitting well when a cross bat shot resulted in him being bowled for 10. Dave Lowton stepped up was straight in playing shots. Steers was building his score with good fours and quick singles. The run rate was being achieved when Lowton didn’t connect and was C&B for a good 24 which he deserved. At drinks we were 90 from 20 overs and still in there. Steers was bowled trying to up the runs and scored a creditable 45 and laid the foundations for the attack. Greveson came and started attacking from the off with a four from the first ball. Stu Houghton fell for 6 and this brought in Matt lowton. Greveson was striking very hard and the Cucney youngsters were getting out of the way rather than stopping it. Matt Lowton had his share and the score was edging closer when an excellent cutting ball bowled Greveson for 25. Partnership of 35. 137-5 41 needed. John Hendley couldn’t settle his nerves and went for a duck. Tony Cook supported Matt lowton who went on to score a fantastic 26before being bowled by Lucas. Rachael Gibbs ran herself out for 0 and Tony was bowled for 6. This left Gaz Wood And Twigg jnr to try to win the game but in the last over it was not possible so they blocked out for the draw. A very close game and well batted. Special mentions to the Antcliffe twins who both batted and bowled good away swing and are a talent to watch for in the future.

Clowne Town 167-9 .
