Clowne v Tibshelf
22/05/04
Played at Clowne
On a very hot day in Clowne, the wicket and outfield were perfect for a high scoring game. Having lost the toss Clowne were put into bat. A strange Choice? On a hot day most teams would have batted first and took first advantage of the good Clowne wicket. However Tibshelf skipper wanted to field, his choice looked to be a good one, as Smalley fell for a duck in the 3rd over, caught at gully. Hendley then run himself out 2 balls later. This brought Holmes to the crease, much earlier than expected. He and White looked to stop the rot, which the did by scoring quickly on a fast wicket. White had moved on to 10 before Holmes added to the score. However once off the mark Holmes started tucking into some buffet bowling. Moving in to the 40's while white was still in the teens. However he got a little to greedy and was bowled for 43 off the bowling of Flint for 43. Clowne were now on 100 for 3 after 18 overs. This brought Nigel Spencer to the crease and he and White carried on the free scoring. White brought up a well deserved 50 (his first for the 1st team). The Tibshelf bowling was struggling in the hot conditions, once Flint had finished his 13 over spell (1-52) the Clowne batsman once again went after the Tibby bowling attack. Spencer also brought up his 50 before being caught off the bowling of Martin. Adam was now in the 70's and looking a bit nervous. In to the frame came Phil Rhodes (answering the emergency call) and he must have made White even more nervous and knackered with the rapid running between the wickets. However White came out of his shell and hit a number of quality shots around the ground. He moved into the 90's with an all run 4. A number of 2's then led to him bringing up his maiden 100 for the club. He was quick to celebrate on the first run bringing up his 100 however Rhodes made him take 2 before taking the applause of his team mates. Rhodes then took over smashing the ball around before falling LBW for 21. Osborne came in for the last over, however White continued to smash the ball around finishing on 115, being caught and bowled on the last ball of the innings. All in all an excellant knock. Pick of the Tibby bowlers was K Martin 54-2.
Clowne Town 248 - 5
After yet another fantastic tea by Amanda Osborne, Clowne wanted to make the most of the high score on the board and attack the Tibshelf batting line up. Steve Bennett and Dave Swannack opened the bowling and were met by the destructive force of P Tideswell who looked in the mood to score all 249 runs himself. He picked Bennett of his legs, in the 2nd over with his 4 Pound bat, for 6 with ease. He moved in to his 50's after around 10 overs. A change was required and Ian Parsons was brought into the attack, it was important that Clowne had Tideswell out ASAP. Ian prooved to be the man for the job as he had the hard hitting Tideswell caught on the mid wicket boundry by Rhodes, to the relief of all the Clowne Team. It was always going to be hard work to bowl a side out on this superb batting surface however Parsons was bowling well with Holmes stood up behind the stumps. He then had the other opening bat L Tideswell bowled for 24. At the other end Josh Womble was brought in to the attack and he bowled a great spell in which he took one wicket and could have had 5. With 2 chances going down and a stumping attempt being turned down, in this form Josh will proove to be a useful player if the Clowne wickets are to be of this standard throughout the season. Josh finished with figures of 11-0-56-1. Bennett and Swannack were then brought back into the attack and they both took a wicket each. Elston (37) Beard (13) and Fenwick (0) all went leaving Kitchen (31*) and Blackburn (0*) to see out the rest of the overs. Tibshelf finished on 178-5. However the day belonged to Adam White after his ton. Well done mate lets hope for many more!!
After the match the boys were out for Hendleys Birthday, and its fair to say that most had an eventful night, more some than others. However a good night was had by all but lets hope to a more sensible approach to drinking by certain members of the 1st team over the remainder of the season, you know and more importantly all the team know, so let the mocking begin.
