The first match of the season brought Butterley United to Clowne, and typically it had been raining most of the week before the game, therefore the wicket was both soft and green. However it was a hot day and the wicket was dring quickly. Clowne skipper won the toss and elected to bowl with the thought that the wicket would improve as the game progressed. Jamie 'Snake' Fellows opened the bowling with Dave Swannack. Both bowled with good control and restricted the Butterley openers scoring chances. Beach formally of Codnor looked in good form and progressed on to 20. However the pressure was starting to tell as the scoring rate was slow. This resulted in some crazy running between the wickets which led to to run outs in consecutive balls with Johnson (6) and Probart (0 Diamond duck). Snake then had Dance bowled for 8. Snake and Swannack were then removed from the attack with figures of 20-1 and 14-0 respectivley. Into the attack came Steve Bennett and Neil Pollard both of whom had a dramatic influence on the match. Pollard removed the in form Beach for 26 with a perfect inswinging yorker. Steve Bennett then had Cocker and the dangerous Knighton out in quick succession. Pollard then quickly removed the rest of the Butterley batting to leave him with figures of 5-7, Bennett finished with 2-28. All in all a fair effort from the Boys.

Butterley United 75 all out.

Clowne made a poor start in reply with Holmes falling caught behind for 6 of the boling of Probart. However this brought Chris Hendley to the crease and he looked in decent form from the off. He supported Smalley until Smalley fell for 16 to a sloppy shot to mid on. Nigel Spencer then came and went for 7 however Matthew Osbourne and Hendley made light work of the Butterley total finishing on 12 not out and 19 not out respectivley.

Clowne Town 76-3.
