Clowne Town Cricket Club Newsletter Februry 2004.
News From the AGM.
The AGM saw some lively debate about the usual issues of election of officials etc. This year the club have decided to seek the services of an overseas player from South Africa.
The player played a couple of friendly games for us last year and it is hoped that he will bolster the strength of the batting as well as keeping wicket. In addition to playing he will also be tasked with coaching both senior and junior players.
It is hoped that by improving the status of the club and bringing on the juniors better quality players will also be attracted to the club which in turn will improve the junior sections.
All this comes at a price of course and the club’s committee are looking into ways of raising funds. The cost will be in the region of £3,000 this is to cover the players return air fare and his accommodation whilst over here.
Tesco have been approached for sponsorship but they have declined. Club players entered the Clowne fun run and raised about £300. Other local companies are also being approached for sponsorships etc if anyone has any ideas we will be pleased to hear from you.
Ben Holmes was elected first team captain again with Andrew Smalley as vice. Phil Bennett stood down as second team captain after 3½ years in which time the team gained promotion and consolidated their position in the higher division. He’s succeeded by Paul Osborne with Chris Hendley as vice.
Jamie Fellows third team captain with Adam White as vice.
A new 4th team was entered into the Sunday League to give occasional players and some of the junior players a chance of a game on Sundays. Paul Linacre is captain with Darren Greveson vice. .

Team Managers wanted.
The club needs parents etc to become involved in running junior teams some of the existing coaches have changed jobs and cannot always finish work in time to organise teams on match nights. If people don’t come forward to assist with team affairs we may not be able to run as many junior teams as in the past.
