Clowne Town Suffer at Ashbourne!

At Ashbourne

Clowne Town made the long trip to Ashbourne and were put into bat on a very green and damp wicket. Holmes and Linacre opened the batting and both had trouble getting the ball away due to a combination of the wicket and good bowling from the Ashbourne bowlers Flack (14/5/37/1) and Hill (9/5/9/0). Holmes was the first to go caught at mid off from the bowling of Gadsby for 12. Smalley then came to the crease and scored 11 before being caught and bowled by the diving Flack. Adam White then added 9 before falling to Gadsby, this then brought Nigel spencer to the crease and he and the big Hitting Linacre added 40 before Linacre was out for a well made 53. Matthew Osborne then came to the crease with the instructions to score quickly and he and Spencer did this before Spencer was run out for 20. Osborne continued his big hitting and went on to finish in 37 not out, having been supported by Steers (7) and Swannack (3*). Pick of the Ashbourne bowlers was Gadsby who finished with figures of (14/3/56/3). Clowne Made 170-6 to set an interesting target for the Ashbourne lads.

Clowne Town 170-6.

It was stressed before Clowne took the field that the bowlers had to bowl up to the bat and let the pitch do the work, however the Clowne opening pair of Steers and Swannack bowled their worst spell of the season. With the ball being sent around the park by Hill (24) and Flack (47) the score had moved on to 90-1 in 12 overs before Linacre was brought in to the attack and it proved to be a good move as he bowled with great accuracy and removed the dangerous Hill. Swannack had returned the other end and took 3 quick wickets Roe (17), Clark (3) amongst the wickets leaving Ashbourne on the ropes. Linacre then had the wickets of Gadsby (2), Griffiths (2) Tarr (0). However Roland had been batting well the other end and had moved on to 37 before being caught out by a flying Josh Womble at Mid wicket off the bowling of Dale Steers. Ashbourne now required 15 with 2 wickets and 5 overs to go. However despite the efforts of the Clowne bowlers Allen (10*) ans Betteridge (4*) saw Ashbourne to a good win finishing on 171-8

Ashbourne 171-8.

Ashbourne beat Clowne by 2 wickets.
