Clowne Town V West Hallam
Clowne Town 'youngsters' draw Agains Hallam! 07/09/03 At Clowne
After a very eventful night out round the village which involved copious amounts of alcohol along with some very funny moments including Chigger apparentley falling head first down some stairs during the late night card session, Clowne were to take on West Hallam. West Hallam won the toss and elected to bat as they required full points to avoid relegation. After leaving the scorebook at Ashbourne the day before Kinsey provided the junior book at short notice and the game began.
Promising Young Opening Bowler.
After the poor bowling display yesterday a new opening attack was given the new ball, with skipper Holmes electing to use himself and White to the amusment of all the Clowne Boys. Holmes started well bowling a decent line and length and troubled the opening pair of Clarkson B And Clarkson C and indeed could have had the wicket of Clarkson B in his 2nd delivery but the chance went begging. At the other end White opened the innings and continued from the Chapel game bowling a controlled line and length. Holmes then had the wicket of Clarkson C caught at gully by Steers from a raising delivery which bounced at least half a stump high Not bad for a little lad. White continued from the other end however bothe opening bowlers were struggling due to the previous nights drinking and were removed from the firing line after 10 overs finishing with figures of 5/1/14/1 and 5/1/13/0 for Holmes and White respectivley. Steers was then introduced into the attack and bowled at good pace. One very fast Steers delivery was deflected by stand in keeper Spencer on to the knee of Pollard and what happened next was perhaps the funniest moment of the season. Pollard was obviously in some pain however I dont think that was an excuse for some of the faces he was pulling he was a definate candidate for the world guring championship. After 10 minutes of this face pulling Pollard was carried off the pitch, never to return. At the other end Kinsey came on and bowled perhaps his best spell of the season finishing with figures of 8/0/26/1, including the wicket of Clarckson B caught and bowled. This brought Curtis to the crease (He of Chesterfield FC and Mansfield FC fame) and it was not long before he was hitting the Clowne attack around the ground. He and Siddons put on 80 for the 3rd wicket as West Hallam looked to increase the scoring rate. Linacre replaced Steers took the wicket of Siddons 3 short of a well deserved half century. Josh Womble bowling from the other end struggled for his line and length and went for 27 from 5 overs. Therefore Steers was introduced back into the attack and took the wicket of Bostock who had made a decent 34. Curtis who had now passed the 50 mark had gone into attack mode and started hitting some big shots. So Osborne was brought into the attack to protect Linacres figures and went for 15 in his first over with Curtis smashing him around the park. However in his next over he had revenge having Curtis bowled for a dazzling 88, he then had Frost caught by Kinsey in the last over to finish with figures of 3/0/25/2. This left Clowne chasing a total of 223-6.
West Hallam 223-6
Clowne opened the batting with Homes and Linacre and the pair got off to a decent start with Linacre looking in good form following his 50 the day before at Ashborne. A little side show was also taking place here, whoever scored the most would probably win the clubs batting averages, this led to some funny running between the wickets. However Holmes and Linacre looked in little trouble until Matthew 'BONG' Osborne was asked to look after the sight screen at the pavilion end as the spin bowler, Siddons, was coming around for the left handed Holmes and Over for the right handed Linacre. Bong was having a little trouble with this concept and this was getting on Linacres nerve. What happened next was classic Bong. Holmes took a single to leave Linacre on strike Bong moved the site screen and laid down next to it during the next ball Bong appeared to be having some sort of fit waving his hands and legs about (he later claimed that he was trying to catch a ball, but the jury is out). Linacre was not a happy bunny and let Bong know with a few 4 letter words. Next ball Linacre was bowled. In affect Bong had lost Paul the batting averages (Matthew the Cheques in the post). Linacre went for 32 and Clowne were on 81 from 18 overs. Next to the crease was Adam White and he was bowled by Curtis who was proving to be a thorn in Clownes Side. Next up was Bong looking to make amends for the Linacre dismissal however he could only manage 8 before being undone by Curtis. He was soon followed by Spencer for 1 againg bowled by Curtis. Holmes was looking good despite being lucky a few times surviving good balls and had passed his 50 by the time he was joined by Barton. Barton has shown promise all season however it was his day yesterday and he looked like the real deal. Holmes took his score on to 77 before being bowled by Curtis. Steers then came to the crease hit one good shot and one poor shot and was out for 4 bowled Curtis. Barton and Womble then held out to secure a decent drae for a very young Clowne Town team who finished on 193-6. All that was left to do now was finish all the left over tea which Jacky had prepared, as always an excellant spread. O and we also had to put Pollard into his car so he could get home perhaps all the guring was required.
Thanks to all the lads who played yesterday, the team must have been the youngest Clowne Town 1st 11 in the history of the club with 7 players under the age of 18 and the youngest being sub fielded Edward Kinsey who is 12 I think. So lets hope we continue to bring through all the youngsters in the furture and I am sure that we will see improved performances throughout the club in the next few years.
Clowne Town drew with West Hallam.
Points 10 - Clowne
