Clowne Town CC Clowne Town Tumble Against Tibshelf!
By Ben Holmes - September 1 2003
Another terrible batting display led to Clowne losing by a 125 runs against a spirited Tibshelf side. The only highlight for Clowne on a disappointing day was the bowling of Dale Steers (who is starting to look very good) and Paul Linacre. >

Clowne Town Tumble Against Tibshelf!
30/08/03
At Clowne

Clowne won the toss for the first time in a number of weeks and put Tibshelf into bat an a damp wicket, due to the rain earlier in the week. Dale Steers made full use of the conditions and had The Tibshelf opener Caunt bowled third ball of the innings for 0. He then had the other opener Martin (11) caught at short leg by Matthew Osborne having been hit for 6 the ball before. Tibshelf were 2 down in the third over. Swannack was bowling well at the other end but was having no luck. Linacre was introduced into the attack and he had Tideswell bowled for 10. This left Matthews and Bush at the crease and this pair put on a decent partnership before Pollard, who had returned from a 3 week trip around Canada which included causing the blackouts, had Matthews caught behind for 38. Kitchen was next in however Linacre removed Bush for 41 to bring Tibshelf skipper to the crease who proceeded to smash the Clowne attack around the park. He farmed the bowling well and finished with 50 not out. Swannack (12/3/50/0) and Womble (5/0/35/0) were treated with little respect during the fine knock. Tibshelf finished 197 - 8, with the pick of the Clowne bowling being Paul Linacre (14/4/35/3) and Dale Steers (9/0/41/3).

Tibshelf 197-8.

After another fine tea, this week prepared by the Clowne boys, Clowne set about reaching the Tibshelf target. However things got off to a very bad start with Clowne Losing Matthew Osborne in the first over for 0. Things got worse slightly later as Holmes was bowled for 3. He was then followed by Smalley for 0. The Clowne batting then went into self-destruct mode, and wickets were lost at regular intervals. White (12), Spencer (16) and Linacre (16) were the only batsmen to offer any resistance. Barton (1), Steers (6), Womble (6), Swannack (0) and Pollard (0*) were the other batsmen. Clowne were bowled out for a poor total of 71. However the bowling of Matthews was first class and he finished with figures of (13.1/5/40/7) and was supported well by Else (13/6/23/3).
