Stapleford V Clowne Town
Clowne Town Blasted by Stapleford! 23/08/03 At Stapleford
Clowne lost the toss and were put into bat on a decent looking wicket which was hard but maybe a little green. Holmes and Osborne opened the innings and got off to a decent start as both looked comfortable at the crease. However Paul Fletcher nipped one back to Holmes (18) and sent his off stump tumbling leaving Clowne 30-1.
This was Just the Start!!.
The Clowne batting then made one of the most dramatic collapses in the recent history of the club. We lost 9 wickets for just 22 runs. Not a record to be proud of. Next to go was Long caught at point for 0. The Osborne was caught at slip for 8 in a similar dismissal to the one he got last week. Dale Steers then played all round a straight one for a duck. Nigel Spencer added a much needed 13 before also being bowled in a similar fassion to Dale. Linacre (1), Bennett (0), Womble (0), Swannack (0) and Mallen (0) all failed against the Stapleford attack with only number 11 Ashley making any impact with 9 notout. Pick of the Stapleford bowlers were P Fletcher (14/7/20/6) and Harchuck (8.5/4/21/4).
Clowne Town 52 All Out.
With Clowne only lasting 28 overs it was straight back out on to the field to try and regain some pride. Dale Steers opened the innings and generated some good pace and he was rewarded instantley with the wicket of M Fletcher off his second ball. He then had Harchuck bowled off his 6th ball leaving Stapleford 0-2 from one over, anything was possible. Cliff was next to go as Dale had him bowled for 10 leaving Stapleford 3 down. Dave Swannack then had the leagues leading run scorer Andy Brear caught at gully for 9. Stapleford had 4 down. However Clowne again suffered from the fact that Dale Steers had to be removed from the Clowne attack after his 5 over spell. Paul Linacre came on for Swannack (who went to bowl at Dales end) and he bowled two good overs which were both maidens before taking himself off. On came Ashley to continue with the tight bowling the pressure was building and this led to the run out of Walker. However Staplefords bowling hero P Fletcher hit a decent 30 not out and won the game for Stapleford.
Stapleford 55-5
Clowne Lost to Ambergate by 22 runs.
