Tibshelf won the toss and elected to bat on the hottest day of the year as Clowne were made to toil in a game they really should have won. Tibshelf's top three batsmen all prospered as only Dave Keys of the Clowne bowlers provided any control and it was Keys who struck first removing Martin for 24 with the score on 52, he finished with the exceptional figures of 14-5-22-1. The cause was then not helped by a nasty blow to Paul Osborne's head he sustained while fielding at short leg. The innings got away in the middle with Tibshelf getting over the hundred mark as Clowne seemed understandably affected by the injury, before Matthew Parker(3-0-16-2) removed Wilkinson for a well made 72 and Ian Parsons(9-0-66-2) got Szabo for 33. Both bowlers then picked up another wicket each but this brought in Tibshelf captain Pete Maloney who smashed the Clowne attack all over the park making 50 off 8 overs as Tibshelf raced to 223 of 46 overs.
