Clowne Town CC Clowne Town Slip to Defeat Againt Mansfield!
By Jamie Fellows - August 18 2003
73 from Adam White could not prevent Clowne Sliping to another defeat. However a much improved perfomance gives hope. And the 3rd team will be looking to carry this up turn in form in the the remaining games of the season. >

Clowne Town Slip to Defeat Againt Mansfield!
17/08/03
At Mansfield

Expecting to be playing in a quarry, the veterans of last year’s game were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at one of the best grounds in the league. The pitch was quite bare and quite hard and after winning the toss, captain Fellows decided to bat first.

Steers and White opened the batting for and got off to a really dreadful start, losing steers in the first over after a ball of full length popped on him and was caught and bowled by Kiddall (10-4-25-6). Kiddall struck again the third over, bowling Phill Bennett, who came in at number three, for a duck. Kiddall then removed the Parker for a duck who was well caught at silly point after creaming the ball straight at the fielder. Kiddall was ripping through the top order of Clowne and after his first three overs, his figures were (3-3-0-3), pretty impressive for a ‘trundler’ as Phill called him!!!! Clowne really were in trouble with the score on 6-3 after 6 overs with the skipper wondering whether choosing to bat really was a good idea. However, Matt ‘Sloth’ Linacre joined White at the crease and they steadied the ship bring Clowne to 40-3 from 15 overs. However, D. Evans (10-2-26-1) was introduced into the attack and bowled Linacre all ends up for the best looking duck I have ever seen.

Josh ‘Anil’ Womble came in at number 6 and was playing a good supporting role for White, who was starting to open up and was playing some beautiful looking shots. White passed 50 and made the skipper a very relieved man as Clowne got themselves to a respectable 111-4 before young leg spinner K. Evans(5-0-24-1) trapped White LBW when the ball looked to be going over the stumps for a wonderful 73. This bought the skipper to the crease and he and Womble couldn’t get a partnership going as the very next over Womble was bowled by Hayles (7-1-37-1) for 28. Houghton came to the crease at number 8 and he and Fellows were pushing the ball around picking up ones and twos before the returning Kiddall bowled Houghton for 9. The score was on 126-7 from 35 overs as Grevesen joined Fellows at the crease. They both tried to move the score but Fellows was thrashing at thin air. Grevesen was playing some big shots but played all round a straight one from Kiddall and was bowled for 9. L.Mallen came and went again being bowled by Kiddall for a duck. With the score on 136-9 going into the last over Wright and Fellows tried to get as many runs as possible but they only managed to get 7. Wright finished on 1* and Fellows 13*.

Could We defend Our Total.

Clowne opened the bowling with Dale Steers and Jamie Fellows. Dale (8-2-27-3) was bowling with good pace and Clowne the start they wanted removing T.Killday (16) in the 3rd over with a good C&B chance. He then had C.Rebel (4) caught by Darren Grevesen at mid off in the 7th over. The very next ball he had W.Jordan (0) caught behind by wicketkeeper Houghton when the ball looked to flick his shirt. Fellows at the other end was bowling his usual miserly tight line and went unrewarded after beating the bat a few times and finished his spell with figures of (6-0-18-0). This meant a double bowling change was needed and into the attack came L.mallen and D.Grevesen. Luke was bowling his quickly but slightly erratically.

However he tempted Wilkinson into cutting a ball which he didn’t get hold of. Steers got in on the act again diving at full stretch to take the catch in the covers. Mallen (4-0-21-2) then removed K.evans, clean bowling him for 7. Mansfield and Pleasley looked to be reeling at 45-5 but Grevesen (3-0-28-0), Linacre (2-0-14-0) and Womble (5-1-26-0) all bowled well but couldn’t get the better of a very good batsman in D.Evans who made a very good 79 and was well supported by the M&P skipper D.Morris (21) who both put on a partnership of 90 for the 6th wicket. It was left then for Evans to hit the winning runs off the bowling of Wright (1-0-8-0).

Mansfield 144-5

A much better performance from the one against Shireoaks went unrewarded. Unlucky boys, im sure if we play like that next week, we will have 20 points in the bag.
