Clowne Town Slump Continues Against Darly Dale!

After losing the toss for the third game in succession Clowne were put in by Darley on a green wicket which looked as though it would offer something for the bowlers. This assessment proved to be correct as Mark Barton and Phil Bennett fell to Topley and Graham White went lbw to Hurst putting Clowne on the back foot. They were soon joined by Chris Hendley(11) as a repeat of last week's sub 100 score looked distinctly possible. Nigel Spencer and Paul Osborne looked like they may mount a rescue but when Spencer pulled a short one straight to square leg off Hurst for 14 and Osborne was unluckily bowled off his body by Fearn the innings looked as good as over. That Clowne lasted to the 45th over was down to some determined batting by Jamie Fellows(16) and Dave Keys(10) however posting a competitive total always looked beyond Clowne and so it proved bowled out for a paltry 110. Pick of the bowlers was Topley 14-5-18-5.

In reply Darley strolled to the total for the loss of one wicket however this was down to the lack of penetration and consistency from the back up bowlers. The opening pair of Keys and Fellows both bowled exceptional spells Fellows removing Marchington and Keys unlucky on a number of a occasions both with lbw shouts and a dropped catch the pair returned the exceptional figures of 7-2-21-1 from Fellows and 10-3-12-0 from Keys. The two bowlers surely deserved better both performing where others did not with bat and ball. If the team cannot start to pick up results soon then relegation looks a distinct possibility.
