19/07/03
At Clowne
Stand in Skippers first duty was to lose the toss and be put into bat by a much chanded Selston team to that which Clowne played earlier in the season. In the regular skippers abscent due to being at a mates wedding Glyn Long opened the innings with regular opener Adam White. However Glyn only lasted 9 balls and failed to trouble the scorers. In came Dale Steers in only his 7th 1st team game of the season and fired a rapid 22 before being caught and bowled by Bainbridge. Andrew Smalley then came in at 4 and added 70 runs with White before departing for 38. Len Wright then came and went for 0, Quickly followed by White who made an important 38. Linacre then played a skippers innings and made 49 not out, farming the strike to perfection and being well supported by Mk Osborne (1), Swannack (1) and Kinsey (2 not out) Leaving Clowne on 189 -8. The pick of the Selston bowlers were Dawes (3-40) and Bainbridge (3-23).

In reply Selston got off to a slow start with Swannak and Ashley bowling a good line and length. Swannack went for 19 runs of his first 8 overs and Ashley finished his spell with figures of (9/1/24/0). Berridge was run out for 33 looking to increase the run rate and Steers was brought in to the attack and was rewarded with 2 caught and bowled wickets Having Davis fir 22 and Spray for 1. Dawes was then run out after a well made 27. Swannack then returned to the attack and took the wicket of Staples (17) He was however punished by Bainbridge who made perhaps the most explosive 50 seen at Clowne for some time bringing his 50 up from 24 balls, putting Selston in the box seat to win. However captain Linacre came to the rescue and had Bainbridge bowled the ball after his 50. Steers then had Edson caught by White for 2, and in the next over Linacre had West for 1. Selston had now crumbled for 174-9 and required 15 runs to win from the last 2 overs. In the last over Steers bowled Edson off a no ball so it did not count and Selston managed to bat out for 181-9 to bring up the draw.
