Rainworth V Clowne Town
Rainworth Romp As Clowne Crumble Again! 27/07/03 At Rainworth
Clowne arrived at Rainworth with high expectations of the opposition with them having a Pakistani overseas playing for them, but how wrong we were! The pavilion was a small concrete shed, the pitch didn’t even have a boundary line marked out and the wicket itself made Codnor look like Lords!!
Adam White won the toss and had no hesitation in putting Rainworth into bat luckily their overseas was not there so we didn’t expect to be chasing 200 round the dump. Fellows and the returning Luke Mallen opened the bowling for Clowne but were taken to the cleaners by some powerful slogging from T.Bell and A.Cooper who put on 40 from 6 overs. Cooper then had a huge stroke of luck when he was dropped 3 times in 3 balls off Fellows, firstly by Barton then twice by Ryan Bennett but the very next ball he was well caught by White at point which came as a huge relief after he had dropped 2 the day before. It also spared the blushes from both Bennett and Barton. Mallen then cleaned up Chamberlain. After 6 overs a piece Greaveson and Osborne replaced Fellows and Mallen. Osborne was soon in the wickets having the Dangerous (in more ways in one) T.Bell caught and bowled for 38 and also had Riley well caught at second slip by John Hendley. Greaveson remained wicketless and finished with figures of 6-0-24-0. another double change was made which brought Adam Wright and Adam White into the attack. Wright (5-0-26-1) bowled reasonably well in only his second appearance for a senior side and picked up the wicket of Dallman for 21 having him caught in the deep by Osborne. At the other end White had the figures of (4-1-16-0).
Fellows (8-1-35-2) was brought back into the attack along with Mallen(8-1-30-2) both picked up another wicket but Mallen was a bit erratic and was replaced by Osborne(6.2-1-17-3) who picked up the final wicket. Rainworth had reached a respectable total of 152 all out.
Rainworth 152 All Out
Clowne re-shuffled the batting line up and sent M.Barton out with D.Greaveson to try and get some quick runs like the start of the Rainworth innings. This came off and Clowne were 30 for 0 off 5 overs. But with the wicket still playing tricks Darren (19) got an unplayable delivery and lobbed it up to the keeper. R. Bennett came and went for 2 being brilliantly caught by Bell, leaving Clowne 52-2 . The inform Osborne came to the crease and carried on the score to 69 before Barton (21) was out caught at point off the reasonably quick Bell. This brought White to the crease. White and Osborne stayed together for 1 over before Osborne (21) started the rather regular middle order collapse being given out LBW off Bell. Bennett then fell for 1 being superbly caught by Riley diving at Mid-On, Gibbs also fell for 1 Bowled by Bell and Hendley fell the very next ball. Clowne had collapsed from 73for 3 to 76 for 7 in the space of 3 overs!! White (8) then fell caught behind to A.Cooper and Fellows followed soon after for 4 A.Wright was the last man out LBW for 2 leaving L.Mallen Not Out also for 2. Clowne were 92 all out after another dismal batting display. The lack of sight screens didn’t help some of the batsman with the pace of Bell but another dismal scorecard. Pick of the Rainworth Bowlers was Bell 7-1-19-5.
