Clowne Town Mark up a Draw Against the Park!
19/07/03
At Old Park

On a pitch which was a pleasant surprise after last years cabbage patch Clowne lost the toss and were asked to bat by Old Park.

Hendley and Matt Osborne got off to a fluent start putting on 30 for the first wicket before Osborne fell for caught and bowled Addis for 16. Skipper Bennett joined Hendley who fell soon afterwards a thin edge through to the keeper accounting for his wicket. Bennett and Graham White set about restoring the innings putting on a fluent 72 for the third wicket in 15 overs before White was unlucky to pick out mid wicket off Parry for 29. Matt Linacre was run out by his captain without scoring but Bennett made up for this somewhat by going on to make his second fifty in two weeks before finally falling stumped of Hickinbotham for a well made 59. Paul Osborne and Steve Bennett added some lusty blows near the end as Clowne finished on 186 for 8.

Clowne Town 186-6

Steve Bennett and Jim Fellows opened the bowling for Clowne and Savage immediately attacked, Fellows coming in initially for some harsh treatment but the tall fast bowler recovered well and with a more defensive field Clowne gradually dragged the scoring rate back under control. Matt Linacre replaced Fellows and made the breakthrough having Parry caught by Fellows for 18 in the middle of an impressive spell of 6-0-22-1. Bennett then bowled the dangerous Savage for 36 as Clowne began to take control with the wicket of I Hill also going to Bennett lbw for 4. A decent partnership followed between Hickinbotham and Addis before Josh Womble(6-0-26-1) had Hickinbotham caught by the captain for 30. Dave Keys(9-2-30-2) then chipped in with two wickets both caught by Askew who was having an impressive game behind the stumps. When Fellows returned to remove Addis and S Hill Clowne looked set for a win but an inability to bowl at the stumps at the end let then down and Old Park ended on 30 runs short with eight wickets down.
