Clowne Town CC Clowne Town Crack Against Cuckney!
By Adam White - July 18 2003
After restricting Cuckney for 128-8 the Clowne Lads were unable to knock off the required runs and fell to a sorry defeat. The Clowne team were eventually bowled out for 101. After bowling so well a disappointing batting performance let the teram down. >

Clowne Town Crack Against Cuckney!
13/07/03
At Clowne

Clowne lost the toss and were asked to bowl, in baking hot conditions. Opening the attack for Clowne was Jim Fellows and Matthew Linacre who got us off to marvellous start with Jim bowling J.Ancliff (0) in his first over. It didn’t take the reformed Happy Matt long to get in on the attack having T.Ancliff (1) removed LBW also in his first over with the score 3 for 2 off 2 overs. The next wicket was also just around the corner again coming to Linacre having R.Watts (9) caught at cover by Mw.Osborne. Jim was not happy with Linacre taking an extra wicket and replied the very next over, again bowling D.Porthouse for just 3. Clowne were flying having Cuckney 15 for 4 off 8 overs. Jamie and Matthew (5-0-15-2) finished good tidy spells and brought into the attack was Steers and Daz Greaveson. Steers picked up 2 wickets bowling both J.Riley and R.Pisharodi for 10 and 8 respectively. Daz (6-0-19-0) bowled a reasonably tidy spell but didn’t really look like picking up a wicket. This prompted another double bowling change with Mw.Osborne and A.White coming into the attack. Cuckney had started a mini revival with the experienced N.Griffin batting well along with the young R.Bostock. This partnership was broken the second ball of Whites first over when he got Bostock (12) plumb LBW.

Then the decision which probably changed the game. White bowled a wide half volley which Griffin chased and quite clearly edged to keeper Dicky Askew who took another great catch. Clowne celebrated this prize wicket and the umpires finger was up. BUT Griffin decided to run to the other end this prompted Askew to throw the ball to White who made sure that the wicket fell by running the batsman out. The umpires finger is still up?!?!? Puzzled to who is out and how we hear Griffin telling the umpire how it was a bump ball and so he couldn’t be out and this prompted the umpire to say that the young Gough was run out.

Clowne were now in the last 10 overs and Osborne (5-1-15-0) and White (4-1-6-1) had bowled very tidy spells this brought Steers (10-1-43-2) and Fellows (10-1-23-2) back into the attack but know more wickets fell and Cuckney finished on 128 for 8 thanks to Griffin getting 55 not out and Wilson 18 not out.

Cuckney 128-8
Should Knock These Off

Clowne opened the batting with Mark Barton and Adam White who got off to a reasonable start but in the 4th over Barton (3) was bowled from a good ball nipping back at him from G.Lucas 2 balls later and Lucas struck again, also bowling R.Bennett (0). Linacre also came and went for 0 being bowled by T.Ancliff and Clowne were in trouble. They needed a big partnership from Osborne and White to get them back into the game, but this wasn’t to develop and Osborne (1) got a dubious LBW decision Matthew Parker was next to the crease but it was White (16) who fell being bowled off his pad from a ball going down the leg side. This left Clowne 22 for 5 off 9 overs. Clowne were now in a desperate state.

Back in It!

Clowne were brought back into the match from a good partnership of 50 from Matthew (coat) Parker (14) and Dale Steers (32). Disaster struck again though when Steers was bowled making the score 73 for 6 then parker followed the very next over being bowled by the returning Lucas. John Hendley (0) played some nice strokes but just found the fielder until one lept on him and he edged it to the waiting Ancliff at first slip. Fellows followed for 8 being bowled by Bostock and Daz also showed some resitance smashing a quickfire 15 this left Dicky Askew 2 Not Out but Clowne All Out for 102 Pick of the Cuckney bowlers were T.Ancliff (4.3-1-15-3) G.Lucas(7-2-15-3) and Bostock ( 4-0-8-3).

Clowne Town 101 all out
