Clowne Town CC Clowne Town Drop The Chance Against Belper!
By Ben Holmes - July 28 2003
After being purt into bat on a good stripo Clowne posted a modest 154-9, however a number of dropped catches lost the game. The fielding along with the batting needs to be improved if Clowne are to remain in 4N next season. However full credit to Belper Meadows who took advantage of the situation. >

Clowne Town Drop The Chance Against Belper!
12/07/03
At Clowne

On a red hot day in Clowne, the home side lost the toss for the second time in a row and were put into bat on a very hard pitch. Holmes and White opened the innings and were soon in trouble with White being bowled for 0 in the third over. This brought Glyn Long to the middle, who has looked in good form over the past 5 games. He and Holmes could only add 20 runs before Holmes was bowled by Bramall for 11. Andrew Smalley was next in and he and Long looked to have the situation under control and added a quick 50 runs before Long was caught off a slower ball bowled by the increasingly impressive Bramall for 35. Clowne then continued to lose wickets at regular intervals as they have done all season with Spencer (5) and Thomson (5) making little impact on the Belper attack. Smalley then departed for a well made 41 and it was left for Linacre to add a much needed 30 to lift the total above 150. Other contributions included Swannack (4), Kinsey (0), Pollard (5*) and Ashley (6*). Pick of the Belper bowlers were Brammall (14/4/46/4) and E Fischer (14/5/38/4) who both bowled with good accuracy and control.

Clowne Town 154-9
Not enough on a good batting track

In Reply Belper made a similar start to that of Clowne, losing an early wicket, Linacre had Pascaual bowled for 3 in the 2nd over. Things got better for Clowne in the 9th over when Swannack had Goodhall LBW for 2 leaving Belper on 15-2. However this brought Beastall to the crease and he and Bakel put Clowne to the sword with a fine array of shots. However they were let off a number of times during their innings with the Clowne fielders dropping a number of relativley simple catches. Bakel was eventually out for 46 bowled Ashley caught Spencer. However it was to late to make any difference to the outcome of the game and Beastall and Wilson (10*) remained unbeaten to take Belper to a comfortable win with 5 overs remaining. Beastall finished with a well made 85*. Swannack finished with figures of (12/1/29/1) and was the pick of the Clowne bowlers again however was let down along with the other bowlers by bad fielding something which needs looking at during the remainder of the season.Along with the batting!!!!
