Clowne XI V Bombay Cavs
Bombay duck as Brear hits a six into Ringer Lane! 06/07/03 At Clowne
Today’s tour game was a great success with the best of cricket traditions being upheld by both teams.
Surya A Baindoor the tour team manager arrived at the ground with his lads early to be met by our well-known overseas ambassador John Steers They were kitted out in fine blazers and caps and made our motley turn out of shorts and joggers etc look very decidedly drabb.
They proceeded to warm up and looked quite impressive. The invitation XI made up of 7 players from Clowne, 2 from Stapleford and 2 from the Bassetlaw League were looking forward to what looked like some sharp bowling to come. Paul Linacre decided to offer the tour side the option to bat first and they got off to a good start with the Gokul cracking the ball to the leg side boundary for 4. However in the next over Graham Bothwick bowled Vishal with his first ball for 0. Undeterred their batsmen still continued to play their shots and Josh Womble put down a difficult chance at mid off which warmed his hands.
He had his revenge however soon afterwards taking a good catch again at mid off to dismiss the other opener for 10 in Linacres 3rd over. This was followed by an even better one handed catch in Pauls next over when no one expected him to even get a hand to the ball.
Their batsmen were still however playing shots which wasn’t perhaps the best plan considering the damp pitch and the amount of movement the bowlers were getting.
Josh replaced Graham (4.0.19.1) and the Womble show continued, with him taking a wicket in his first over. Jonno Blood (8.1.26.3). had replaced Paul Linacre at the pavilion end and he bowled tightly with little luck until his last over in which he took 3 wickets breaking a useful fourth wicket stand of 47 between Kadir 27 and Yousuf 34.
That well known quickie Chris Hendley (2.0.18.0) was brought on to replace Josh. Chris was enjoying bowling so much that he bowled 11 balls in his first over, with every delivery possible except a bouncer, the one he got on the wickets cut the batsman in half but sailed over the top of the stumps.
Jonno was then replaced by Adam Harchuck (or was it Elma Thud) and he wound up the innings with his deceptively slow approach to the stumps followed by a fast accurate full length ball finishing with 3.1.18.3, leaving Arora not out on 9.
Tour side 122 all out
Clowne openers Chris Hendley and Andy Brear strode to the wicket to face a rapid opening spell of bowling from Babu and Yousuf who were bowling a tight line. In the sixth over Yousuf clean bowled Chris for 1 with the score on 20. Paul Thompson a couple of overs later fell without hitting a ball to Babu.
Brotherwick and Brear then put a little partnership together of 28 before Brotherwick went the same way for 2 in Babu’s last over (8.3.16.2). Adam Harchuk then put on 44 with Brear who went to his 50 with two successive sixes the last one going over the houses into Rhodes’s front garden.
With the score on 98 Andy was caught behind for 70 off the bowling of yousuf, who had returned for his second spell. 98 for 4 became 98 for 5 when Stew Houghton was clean bowled also by Yousuf (8.1.26.3) Mark Osborne (15no) then helped Harchuk take the score onto 115 when Adam fell bowled to Kunni Yoor (6.4. 0. 26. 1) however Mark and Paul Linacre (1no) finished the game off. The Cavaliers other bowlers being Kadir (2.0.15.0) and Shivi (3.0.7.0).
Clowne 123 for 6 won by 4 wickets.
Thanks to all the players who made the effort to play especially those from other clubs including Andy, Adam, Graham and Jon.
