West Hallam V Clowne Town
Clowne Town Walk Over West Hallam! 28/06/03 At West Hallam
Clowne arrived at the West Hallam ground at 1.30 after the long journey they were greeted with a very wet wicket. Therefore it was of no surprise that they elected to bowl when Holmes won the toss.
The opening delivery of the match set the tone for the remainder of the match as Linacre bowled a good length ball which bounced over the opening bats head.
A good Toss to win then!
The opening bowlers of Clowne made full use of the conditions and it was no surprise that Linacre was soon among the wickets having Goodwin caught at mid on by Kinsey for 2. Fellows (6-3-7-1
) who bowled with good control was next to take a wicket having Farmer also caught at mid on by Chris Hendley. To the surprise of all the Clowne Lads Chris Hendley (AKA - Fingers) did not have to go to hospital after making the catch for the first time in living memory. For the next 10 overs it was all Paul Linacre back to his best taking 6 wickets for the loss of only 11 more runs leaving him with final figures of 10-2-22-7 in a great effort. However he will be disapointed that he did not claim a hatrick after getting 2 chances, this could have made a real difference on the clubs fantasy cricket scores.
Clowne introduced a new 'Bassetlaw Trundler' into the attack with Dave Swannack introduced into the attack, and he finished with figures of 3-1-5-1 proving that he may beable to bowl into his more senior years, just like Linacre. Steve Bennett was also introduced into tha attack but struggled with his ankle again, before Aubrey was bought into finish the West Hallam Innings. Earlier in the day Aubrey had proved his use in the slips having caught one in his man breasts, typical of the big lad. However he had top scorer and number 11 bat, S Rayner bowled for 18 leaving him with figures of 64-84-68GG.
West Hallam 50 All Out
The Clowne Innings followed on from the West Hallam innings as the tea was not yet ready. Having seen what happened in the West Hallam innings it was important for the Clowne batsmen look to score of the loose balls. Holmes batted well in tricky conditions and was well supported by White who is once again starting to find his form. The pair put on 47 when Holmes was caught behind on 32 with only 4 required to take 22 points. Hendley then got a beast of a ball and he departed for 0 it was then left for Spencer to hit the winning runs leaving him on 4* and White on 11*. All in all a great performance form the Clowne Lads. So it was a quick drink at West Hallam and straight down the Motorway to see the 2nds bat out for a draw, with Bennett back to his best.
