Clowne Town V Ashbourne
Clowne Town Fade to Ashes! 21/06/03 At Clowne
Clowne lost the toss and were put into bat on a hot sunny day in Clowne. Holmes and Long opened the batting and got away to a great start with Long scoring quickly. The pair put on 63 for the first wicket before Long was stumped on 41. Paul Linacre then arrived at the crease and looked in fine form before being given out LBW when he looked outside the line of offstump. Nigel Spencer (4) then came and went edging the ball behind as the Clowne middle order fell apart as it has done for most of the season. Steve Bennett added to the woe with a dodgy caught and bowled which appeared to be a bump ball however the umpires decieded otherwise and so Bennett had to go. Next to depart was Holmes for a hard earned 37 being caught at deep mid off. Matthew Osbourne and Dave Swannack added 4 and 19 respectivley before Jamie Fellows 8* and Joseph Kinsey 6* batted the overs out. Pick of the bowlers for Ashbourne were Gadsby 4-43 and Bembridge 5-23, also a special; mention for the Ashbourne keeper Cope who had 5 victims during the game in a superb display.
Clowne 163-9
Clowne decieded that in order to win the game they would have to bowl the opposition out and therefore set attacking fields. Steers and Swannack opened the bowling and as usual bowled with good pace and control Swannack removed Flack (9) before being removed from the attack after two warnings from the umpire for running down the track. In to the attack came Steve Bennett who bowled with good variation and claimed the wicket of Bembridge (29). However yet again the change bowlers prooved to be a little bit expensive with Steve Bennett going for 40 off 7, Jamie Fellows going for 19 off 3 and Joseph Kinsey going for 21 off 3. Therefore the opening bowlers were brought back into the attack. Clowne were rewarded Steers Claiming 3 quick wickets and Swannack Claiming the other opening bat Gadsby for a well played 58. Dale compleated his spell of bowling with final figures of 3-41. This brought Steve Bennett in to the attack with Clowne needing 4 wickets to win, he then Claimed the wicket of Cope leaving Ashbourne 7 down however they had enough batting lower in the order to complete a good win, leaving Clowne to contemplate on a poor batting display yet again.
