Clowne Town CC Clowne Town Sweep Stonebroom Under the Carpet!
By Phil Bennett - June 18 2003
Another good win for the 2nds puts them in good position to challange for promotion this year. Adam White and Paul Thompson both contributed with the bat and Steve Bannett took 6-13 with the ball. However Clowne lost Russell Doughty to a nasty Knee injury and he may be out for season. >

Clowne Town Sweep Stonebroom Under the Carpet!
14/06/03
At Clowne

Clowne welcomed bottom of the table Stonebroom on one of the best days of the summer so far. Skipper Phil Bennett won the toss again an asked the visitors to bowl first on a decent looking pitch. Bennett and Chris Hendley opened the innings and saw off a decent opening attack before Hendley was caught by Bryn off Caddick for 16, Bennett soon followed disapointingly stumped off Donaldson for 13. This brought together the father and son combination of Adam and Graham White the two batted very well to push Clowne on to 85 before Graham rather gave his wicket away caught in the covers off Bryn. Steve Bennett strode out to the crease and then strode back again LBW to Doors without scoring and Paul Thompson joined White, the two put the Stonebroom attack to the sword before Thompson finally fell for a well made 47, Mark Osborne added a quick fire 12 as at the close Clowne posted a respectable 191 for 6. Adam White finished top scorer with a fluent 64 not out. Pick of the bowling were Donaldson 9-0-59-3 and Caddick 14-4-50-1.

Clowne 191-6

Stonebroom soon showed why they are struggling this season for while their bowling is as good as anyone else in the league their batting is more limited. Ashley soon removed Dewey for 2 before and Steve Bennett cleaned up Donaldson. Wickets then continued to fall at regular intervals, Ashley getting O'Dore and Bennett 2 more bowling both Bryan and Gregory leaving Stonebroom reeling on 29 for 5. Doughty replaced Ashley (9-4-25-2) and had Gregory well caught by Phil Bennett at 2nd slip and Steve Bennett removed Sheldon for a duck the day was going perfectly for Clowne. Then disaster struck, Doughty went down cluching his knee and at this stage it looks like the big fast bowler could be out for most of the season, terrible news for the popular and influential big man who will be sorely missed in the coming weeks. Steve Bennett (14-9-13-6) and Jamie Fellows soon wrapped up the points leaving Stonebroom 55 all out.

Stonebroom 55 All Out

A good win and 27 points for Clowne but a shadow cast over this with the injury to Russ Doughty who has been excellent so far this season how costly this injury will prove to be will be seen in the next few weeks.

Clowne beat Stonebroom by 136 runs

Points
27 - Clowne
3 - Riddings
