Clowne Town CC Clowne Not Quite Good Enough Against Teversal!
By Adam White - June 17 2003
A disappointing result for the 3rds and lessons must be learned if they are going to gain promotion this year. They were bowled out for 112 and Teversal knocked the runs off with 4 wickets to spare to complete an easy win for the home side. >

Clowne Not Quite Good Enough Against Teversal!
08/06/03
At Teversal

Another bright sunny day saw the thirds travelling through the back lanes to Teversal Barry Cook had decided to bike it to see son Calvin play and we passed him on the outskirts of Teversal just before 2pm. (There’s dedication for you).

Clowne lost the toss and were put in to bat with Angus and Jamie opening the batting Teversal fielded a similar team to ourselves with a mixture of youth and experience (different to some we’ve played this year).

After a bright start Jamie clipped one off his legs straight into the hands of a legside fielder and he was followed shortly after when Angus shouldered arms to a ball that took middle and leg stump 18 for 2 with Jamie 5 and Angus 10.

This brought the out of form Phil Bennett to the crease with his brother Ryan (just recovering from a broken finger). They put together a little partnership and saw the score to 58 before Ryan was also bowled for 19. Matt Linacre proceeded to walk at the slowest pace ever seen to the wicket, Phil who came to meet him was nearly two thirds to the boundary when they met. (body language is important) Matt the hero of the previous week soon became the villain when he played across the line and was bowled for 2.

Matthew Parker came to the wicket and played a couple of nice shots, one a nice deflection to leg from a rising ball into his ribs however he also fell quickly to a catch behind. Adam White then went in to see if he could build on his 64no the day before but Phil (19) then lost his wicket stumped going down the wicket to the spinner Steele. (74 for 6)

Askew joined Adam and they put together a little stand with Adam trying to farm the bowling but he fell to a return catch when he didn’t pick the slower ball (18). Darren Greveson came to the wicket and was soon joined by Luke Mallen when Askew was run out. Darren followed caught behind and Calvin came to the wicket and promptly pulled a short ball for 4 before the innings closed at 112 when Luke fell for his usual duck.

Clowne 112 all out in the 37th over

The Teversal innings saw the prolific Jarvis and Walker come to the crease but Jamie Fellows sent back Walker bowled for a golden duck off his third ball. Luke opened the bowling at the other end and had a nightmare 2 overs, spraying the ball everywhere and bowling no balls, he was brought off with figures of 2 overs for 24 and a few byes for good measure. Teversal were 32 for 1 off 4 overs and one of those was a maiden!

Calvin Cook was brought on and even though he slowed down the run rate he didn’t look like getting the breakthrough that Clowne needed and he was brought off after 2 overs for 14. Jamie was still bowling his usual tight line and finished his 7 over spell with one for 21. Darren was now bowling at the other end and this had slowed the run rate to something more normal but Teversal were now well on course at 83 for 1 off 14 overs.

Matthew Linacre followed Jamie at the pavilion end and promptly turned the game on its head by taking 3 wickets in his first over just missing out on a hat trick. Teversal began to show some nerves with Darren now getting in on the act and taking another wicket. Matts second over saw another wicket fall with Jarvis out for 47 (Lambert had scored 23 and the other 4 batters had all got 0).

Teversal were now 94 for 6 and looking decidedly edgy but Oglesby and Doddsley saw them through to a 4 wicket win.

Teversal 114 for 6
