Clowne Town V Stapleford Town
Clowne Town Overpowered By Stapleford! 07/06/03 At Clowne
Clowne lost the toss for the second week in a row and it was no surprise that Stapleford elected to bat as Andy Brear has been in form all season scoring 700 runs in 7 games before this fixture.
However the Staplefords innings got off to a slow start with Linacre (0-63) and Swanny both keeping chech on the Stapleford openers. And it was not long before Swannack got one to beat Walker for one. However this brought M Fletcher to the crease and he and Brear looked to increase the run rate.
Shortly after Fletcher arrived at the crease Holmes who was keeping wicket got struck right on the knee cap by a fast Swannack delivery to the amusement of all his team mates and opponents. However this was no excuse for dropping Brear a few overs later off of Linacre when Brear was on about 35. This did not prove to be too expensive though as Kinsey got one to spin away from Brear who edged it to Len Wright at slip for 49, much to the relief of Clowne and Holmes.
Kinsey (2-41) then repeated the dose to Harchuk (2) who was bowled through the gate by an excellant leg spin delivery. M Fletcher had continued his assult on the Clowne attack however was run out for a well played 66 after a lack of concentration and quick work from Holmes behind the stumps. P Fletcher (62) also came in and played some good shots until he was caught by Kinsey off of Swannack (2-40). Two more wickets fell before the end off the 46 overs both run outs as Stapleford looked to finish with a flurish.
Stapleford Town 213-6
Clownes reply got off to a bad start with Smalley leaving one from P Fletcher which cut back and bowled him middle stump, a strange dismissal for Smalley who has looked out of form all year. This brought Long to the crease who looked in good touch and survived a big appeal for caught behind. Holmes was next to go after failing to get over a sweep shot, however it took a fantastic diving catch from Brear to see Holmes on his way for 14. Wickets then fell at regular intervals during the Clowne innings due to some handy bowling from the Stapleford attack. Both Wright (4) and Hendley (0) were cleaned up by P Fletcher.
Long then fell to Brear for 45 after getting one that popped and flicked his glove, however this was a welcome return to form for Clownes number one batsman. Linacre was the only other batsmen to do anything against the Stapleford attack making a patient 32 before being caught at mid wicket, which was unfortunate s it looked like he might steer Clowne to a draw. However Clowne were bowled out for 134.
Clowne 134 all out
What needs to be improved?
The fielding was as bad as I have ever seen it at Clowne therefore individuals need to take a look at themselves and listen to the advise of more experianced players who have seen it all before. A number of players are also out of form with the bat therefore changes could be made if improvements are not made over the next week or 2. Generally the bowling was good on Saturday and in theory we should have been able to knock the runs off.
WE MUST DO BETTER NEXT WEEK!
