Clowne lost the toss and were asked to field by Wingerworth in what looked to be a tough task with 7 changes from the side which won on saturday and with a number of young players making just their first or second appearance for the second team.
Paul Osborne(7-0-33-0) and Russ Doughty opened the bowling and kept a hold on the Wingerworth batsmen to begin with but Burnyeat soon began to get on top, hitting hard and straight. Young Calvin Cook was brought on first change and justified the captains faith bowling a good line and length limiting scoring opportunities and at the other end the experienced Ashley wheeled away and removed Rolfe bowled round his legs for 9. Clowne struggled for another breakthrough until Matthew Parker (5-0-24-1) on debut got the wicket of Burnyeat caught well by Doughty for 62. This brought Oldfield(89) to the wicket who along with C Haw(58) put Clowne's bowling to the sword the inexperienced Wood ( 4-0-29-0) and Wright (3-0-39-0) suffering despite bowling a decent line and length, the experience of bowling to good senior batsmen will undoubtly stand them in good stead for future appearances and indeed Wood was particularly unlucky not to have a wicket to his name when Phil Bennett put down a difficult chance at deep mid-on. The return of Ashley (10-2-28-3) and Doughty (101-53-1) stemmed the flow of runs to somewhat and Wingerworth finished on 254-5.
Wingerworth 254 for 5
Clowne's batting was opened by Phil Bennett and Graham White and after a steady start White fell for 20 to Oldfield another decent score from Graham who has been a model of consistency this season. This brought togther Phil Bennett and Mark Osborne who put on an excellent stand of over 100 with Osborne getting the lions share of the runs 74 to be exact this was his maiden half century so well done Mark. He finally fell LBW to Burnyeat(10-0-50-2), Bennett followed for 32 stumped by the excellent Andy Bennett who was unlucky not to have the opener earlier in identical fashion. These runs will come as a relief to the skipper who has endured a wretched start to the season. Doughty and Danny Ashley took up the chase and with big Russ clouting the ball to all parts and securing his maiden fifty the win looked on. However Evill(8-0-54-2) removed Doughty and Paul Osborne(17) and Oldfield (10-1-38-3) Wingerworth's best bowler on the day got rid of Ashley and Parker leaving Clowne agonisingly short on 221 for 7.
Clowne Town 221 for 7
An excellent performance from a young inexperinced side which bodes well for the future for Clowne.
