Clowne Taught lesson by Ruthless Shipley!
31/05/03
At Shipley
Clowne were put into bat having lost the toss. The wicket was on the green side but looked a good strip to have a bat on. Smalley and Holmes opened the innings and were soon in trouble with Turner getting one to leave Holmes down the Slope having him caught behind for 11. A similar delivery accountered for Long (7) shortly afterwards.
The next to depart was Wright for 1 bolwed by Carrington. Turner also continued to punish the Clowne top order making full use of the slope at Shipley finishing with figures of 5-33 in doing so getting Smalley (7) Hendley(7) and Linacre (11). The only Clowne player to show any resistance was Osbourne who was unlucky to be given at LBW after scoring 28. The Clowne Tail then crumbled to the bowling of McDonough 2-2. Leaving Clowne 95 all out.
Clowne 95 all out
A Disappointing Performance
With Clowne needing quick wickets in order to win the game attacking fields were set. However the Shipley openers Robinson (23) and McDonough (40*) were in no mood to hang about and hit the Clowne attack around the park. Swanny the only bowler to take a wicket having Robinson LBW. This brought Rimmington (27*) out to the crease and he played some excellant shots as Shipley cruised home for a 9 wicket win.
Shipley 96-1
From this display Shipley will take some stopping this year, and look set for the league title but a lot can happen before the end of the season. Clowne will look to bounce back from this defeat next week against Stapleford and Andy Brear who racked up his 5th and 6th ton of the year over the weekend so we will need to be up for this!
With our match finishing early we all headed back to the club to watch the 2nds, and they put on a show that restored the clubs damaged pride, by gaining a full 27 points against Ambergate.
Most of the boys decieded to stop behind for a drink as it was Smalleys birthday and to put the Shipley result behind us. After a game of killer pool which Chig won claiming the £10 prize the drink flowed as freely as ever. With Rhodes taking on neat double Gins the fool he would regret this later. Down to the Welfare where a decent band were on with a fantastic drummer. The lads were now taking on the powershandy and getting increasingly worse for ware. We all then moved on to the Anchor for the last orders and Smalley dropped 2 full pints of ale (not the first time he has dropped something mind). I can also remember Chris and the Rhodes having an altercation about missing drink, but all was sorted.
Having finished in the Anchor me and Rhodes decieded to go back to his for a game of risk and a few more beers. However we noticed that someone had decieded to build a supermarket on our normal route home. Not put of we jumped over the metal fence and made our merry way across the mud humps until we got to the other fence where I decieded to climb over it and jumped into a bush full of nettles which in the end turned out to be quiet painful. Rhodes on the other hand crawled under the fence and still got stung. We then managed to get home and cracked on with the risk, but dont ask me who won!
