Clowne Town V Shireoaks 25/05/03
Clowne Town Take the Acorn From the Oaks! 25/05/03 At Clowne
On a bright day in Clowne every one was praying for a game that would not be interrupted by the rain. With every player arriving on time for a change we duly got on with the jobs and got in some well needed fielding practice after last weeks rather abysmal performance. This was conducted by no other than Bong who spanked the ball that hard it was a miracle if any one got near it and then if they did they nearly broke their fingers. Anyway time to start the skippers went out to toss up and to keep up with his 100% record Adam White proved he is a good tosser even if he cant bat and put Shireoaks in.
GOOD START BOYS
Clowne opened the bowling with Jamie Fellows from the Mansfield Road end and Luke Mallen from the Ringer Lane End. Fellows started with a maiden bowling a tight line and length but Mallen was struggling a little to find the right length. The first wicket fell in the 5th over with the score on 10 when Fellows asked to bring a man across from Mid-Wicket to Extra Cover this proved a very good change and the very next ball Brealey (2) lobbed the ball straight to the waiting Osborne’s hands at none other than Extra Cover. Clowne removed the other opener when 2 overs later Fellows trapped Bakes (7) Lbw with a very good Yorker. Then Mallen got in on the act and cleaned bowled both Wilkinson and Baker for 0 in the 10th over. Then the very next over Fellows claimed another wicket having Blackham (9) caught at wide Mid-On by Matthew Linacre. Both openers had now finished their spells with very good figures, Fellows (6-3-9-3) and Mallen (5-1-9-2) this left Clowne in a strong position with Shireoaks struggling at 24 for 5. this brought Matt Linacre and Matt Osborne into the attack. Osborne finished wicket less after his 4 overs (4-0-17-0) but Linacre claimed the wicket of Fox (5). Linacre finished with (5-0-16-1). This brought Adam “Elma” White (3-1-3-2) on to claim two wickets in his first over, Stocks (27) and Healey (0) both bowled from double bounce yorkers. This left Womble (2.2-19-2) to clean up the innings having Dewberry (4) caught at Mid-Wicket and bowling Barnes for 1. Shireoaks had made 83 All Out.
Shireoaks 83 all out Clowne made it look easy
Clowne opened the batting with Steers and Osborne both made a good start and rotated the strike well. The big hitting Steers did have a stroke of luck though being dropped in the slips on 14. Clowne raced to 32 off 9 overs but in the 10th Steers (23) slapped a four back over the bowlers head only to fall caught behind the very next ball to leave the score 39-1. This brought Mark “Fat Angus” Barton ( who dropped the easiest catch ever while Clowne where in the field) to the crease. This seemed to inspire Osborne who built up the pace with Angus just pushing the singles. Clowne reached their target of 84 off 21.2 overs for the loss of only 1 wicket Osborne finishing on 49* and Barton 9*.
This was a much improved performance from last week and lets hope it kick starts our season to push for promotion once again!
