Swanny Crushes Codnor In Style!
24/05/03
At Clowne

For the 5th match on the trot Clowne won the toss and it was no surprise that they elected to field, putting Codnor into bat on a damp green wicket. It was hoped that the conditions would offer some swing for the Clowne opening bowlers, Swanny and Bong.

Swanny made full use of the conditions and produced probably his best spell of bowling since being at the club. He had Beach caught at cover by Rhodes second ball, and never looked back. With good support from Bong the other end (0-14 off 6) Swanny continued to terrorise the Codnor batsman. However he had to wait until his 4th over before claiming his 2nd wicket removing Wooley caught behind for 0, his 3rd wicket came two balls later bowling P. Soar for 0, a pattern was developing.

He saved the best for the next over, first Leak went for you guessed it 0 caught at slip by Smalley, in came A. Soar to be bowled by a perfect Yorker for 0 giving Swanny his first 5 wicket haul for the 1st team.

Hatrick

Swanny then repeated the dose with Millington bowled for 0 by a similar delivery to the one which accounted for A Soar, giving him a well deserved hatrick. Swanny had claimed 6 wickets for 0 runs from 5 overs. His next four overs were a little more expensive with 2 maidens and 5 runs so he was removed from the attack, should try harder next week!

In to the attack came Pollard who again bowled well with good control and accuracy and was rewarded with figures of 3-14 off 10 overs. Kinsey also had a spell of 5 overs for 11 runs however failed to take a wicket. Linacre was then introduced to end the Codnor innings.

Codnor 48 all out

With Tea not yet ready the Clowne innings followed straight on from the Codnor innings, and the runs were quickly knocked off in 12 overs by Smalley 33 not out and Holmes 15 not out. To give Clowne a 10 wicket win and 22 points.

Clowne Town 52-0

Clowne Win by 10 Wickets
