Marehay V Clowne Town
Rain Puts an End to Clowne V Marehay 10/05/03 At Marehay
Clowne won the toss and elected to put Marehay into bat on a very damp green wicket. They were rewarded with an early wicket with Swanny (1-10) getting Tinsley caught at square Leg for 0. Linacre (1-31) proved to be a little expensive but had Gregory caught by a flying Wright at gully. Linacre was replaced by Polly after being thrashed over the pavilion by Parkin (32*) who looked in fine form. Polly finished with figures of 1-7 before the rain fell.
.
Marehay 49-3 And that was that for the 3rd week on the trot we were rained off.
However we soon put the disappointment behind us and settled down to enjoy the tea and the football. What a rubbish match that was.
The boys then decided to go back to the club to watch the 2nds, and that was well worthwhile. Not only did we get the chance to mock Phil Bennett we also got to drink loads of cheap Ale, much to the satisfaction of club treasurer Paul Linacre.
After the fine win by the 2nds it was decided to take the drinking down in to Clowne and with a good turn out the beer flowed. Special mention for Bong who turned err 17 at the weekend who drank copious amounts of dodgy drinks and looked a little green by 10 o'clock. We finished the night as always in the Anchor and with Polly, Swanny, Arbury, Rhodes, Smalley, Parsons, and special guest Lewis out it was never going to be a quiet night and we hit the spirits hard and the memory is a little bit hazy. However I do remember taking Rhodes Ultimate fighting championship with stunning DDT in the middle of the Anchor.
And I would like to put it on record that I now retire unbeaten from the world of ultimate fighting and Employ Swanny as my protector.
All in all a good night out shame about the cricket....... Ah well better luck next week.
