Clowne Town V Rainworth
Clowne washed up by the Rain! 11/05/03 At Clowne
The wet weather continued and the match was again played on the artificial pitch. Clowne won the toss and elected to field first. Everyone was ready for the first ball and you guessed it, it rained and they all trooped off. When play started after about 10 minutes the Rainworth openers started at a brisk pace off bowling that was pitched to short. The bowlers then started to stem the flow of runs a little but dropped Cooper off a difficult chance at point. The first wicket fell in the 9th over to Greveson and the 2nd wicket followed soon after with Mat Linacre bowling Dallman for 5.
Cooper however was still going after the bowling and he was joined at the wicket by Shariz Khalid (a Pakistani under 19 academy player). These two proceeded to nock the ball to all parts of the ground and sometimes out of it. However Clowne’s catching continued to help with Cooper being dropped no less than 6 times and Shariz being given a life on 60.
These two put on a stand of 154 before Shariz was out caught by Mat Linacre for 127, Cooper followed soon after for 86 and the innings was finally declared on 242 for 6
Rainworth - 242-6 declared
Clowne’s reply was soon in trouble when Linacre falling in the first over with Dale Steers following him in the second soon to be followed by Paul Thompson in the 3rd. The next wicket didn’t fall until the 16th over when Barton was caught. This brought Matthew Parker to the crease in his first senior game but unfortunately he fell to a leading edge lobbing the ball gently back to the bowler.
Adam White who had been in since the fall of the first wicket, was joined by Josh Womble and on came the leg spinner (or so it was rumoured ) Shariz. However with the wicket keeper stood back 10yards behind the end of the Asto turf he was going to bowl quick leg spin! After some resilient resistance Josh was out playing an expansive shot and Stewart Houghton soon followed. Jamie went to the wicket and played an immaculate forward defensive shot slightly after the ball had hit his wicket, Luke Mallen avoided the hat trick ball but Adam trying to farm the bowling was out trying to nock a wide ball for a single.
This brought the last man Darren Greveson to the wicket and a thrilling session with Luke and
Darren trying to dispatch the ball around the ground, Luke falling when he had 5 leaving Darren not out on 8.
Clowne - 64 all out
Rainworth win by 178 Runs
