By Joseph Kinsey - May 16 2003
For the second match running Clowne's batting was not good enough and they crashed to defeat against Cutthorpe. They will be looking to improve on this next week when they take on the AGD. >

U15s Struggle against Cutthorpe.
15/05/03
At Clowne

Clowne came into the game with their main player Dale Steers back from injury. On a lovely sunny night Clowne won the toss and elected to bat.

Clowne opened with D.Steers and J.Kinsey. Dale was bowled second ball bringing M.Linacre to the crease looking to build on his 48* from Sunday. Joseph was running Matt wragged between the wickets. This tactic was working well until Matt was bowled for 18. J.Womble then came in and carried of where Matt left off. This was again working well until J.Kinsey got a dodgy bounce that cost him his wicket (8). M.Parker and Josh were now at the crease. Then Josh was caught trying to hit over the top for 14. Matt P soon followed for 9 run-out by A.Wright who was caught for 2. This sparked a collapse with only Calvin offering any resistance with 12.

Overall a shocking batting performance AGAIN which has resulted in two loses on the trot against sides we are better than.

Clowne Finished on 78.

Clowne went out to try and defend a low total of 78. M.Linacre and Calvin opened the bowling; they both bowled tight and only conceding 23 runs off a combined 6 overs. On came on the spinners Joseph and Josh who both bowled nice and tight and taking two wickets apiece. This led us into the final 4 overs and on came Matt and A.Wright. Adam bowled 1 0ver and only went for three runs (2 wides and 1 no-ball). Matt bowled a steady first over of his spell only going for 5. Cutthorpe then needed 13 off 2 overs. But down to good batting they hit Matt’s final over for 12 making the scores tied. And on came D.Steers for the final over but unfortunately the first ball went for a bye. Making Cutthorpe the winners by 3 wickets.

Overall a terrible batting performance and a game where we missed our first choice wicket keeper as Stuart had gone to watch the football. David did well to say his was rusty. Some good fielding and bowling but we just didn’t score enough runs.
