Clowne Town V Butterley Utd 10/05/03
Rain gets the better of Clowne Town and Butterley. 10/05/03 At Clowne
Clowne won the toss and put Butterley into bat on a sunny day in Clowne, however the weather was soon to change. The Clowne opening bowlers Steers (0-12) and Fellows (1-17) both bowled a tight line and length until Steers had to leave the field with a side injury (For the 2nd time this season and looks set for a while out of the team).
With Steers out of the attack Swannack (2-38) was called on and he bowled with good pace throughout his 11 over spell. The Butterley innings was going along at a steady pace with Woodward (48) Probart (31) and the big hitting Knighton (33) all making telling efforts.
Kinsey Again
However the Butterley innings was disrupted by Kinsey (5-57) bowling with good variation. He was also helped by some great fielding by the Clownes. With Smalley and Osbourne both taking good catches.
Other contributions to the Clowne Bowling effort were Linacre (1-20) and Osbourne (0-22). Leaving Butterley with a respectable total of 173-9, but well within the reach of the Clowne batsmen.
Butterley United 173-9 Time Match
However due to a number of rain breaks during the Butterley innings and an extended tea period due to rain the match turned in to a time match. Clowne wanted to try and reach the target and therefore changed the batting order with Linacre opening the innings. However Smalley (7) was soon back in the changing rooms with the ball misbehaving on the now sodden wicket. Linacre (7) was then run out. However this bought Long (23) and Holmes (51*) to the crease and the pair put on 60 runs for the 2nd wicket. Long was lost LBW with the wicket becoming more tricky he was soon followed by White (0) and Spencer (0) and it looked like Butterley could sneak a win as the rain continued to fall. However Holmes and Osbourne (25) batted well to secure 11 points for the team on what was another frustrating day.
Clowne Town 123-6

However despite the frustrating results the Clowne Boys hit the town after the night out, after sampling the Grolsch (80p a bottle we headed for town centre. This despite Chig losing the club keys along with his mobile phone. First to the Welfare for some cheap dodgy drinks (some green stuff recommended by Rhodes went down a treat) and a dodgy turn playing some old classics very badly. Despite the lack of talent on offer apart from Chalks bird (He's scored more times with her this season than he has runs, Mind you 6 is not tough to beat). We then moved onto the Karaoke Bar otherwise known as the Anchor, where more dodgy drinks were necked at an increasingly alarming rate with Swanny and Rhodes knocking them back as if it was going out of fashion like one of Swannys Shirts. With Aubrey not out (However Smalley is starting to look like him) there was no version of Paranoid so we all left slightly disappointed and very drunk. To end the day off perfectly Chig had also lost £15 in the Anchor, however as luck had it the £15 was still there on the floor of the Anchor when he popped in to have a look.
A great night out lets hope theres many more over the coming season
