Clowne won the toss and asked Wirksworth to bat on a wet afternoon. Wirksworth openers Johnson and Lowndes tore in Clowne's bowlers from the start, Parsons(8-1-44-0) who had been so effective the week before was punished severly wheras Steve Bennett got more to grips but was unable to stem the scoring, after 22 overs Wirksworth were 102 for 0. Matt Osborne (6-1-26-1) finally removed Johnson for a well made 43. Ashley and then Doughty(10-1-35-0) were brought into the attack as the run flow was dried up by some tidy bowling and Ashley (13-0-53-1) had the hard hitting Lowndes caught splendidly by Parsons at mid-off ending a superb knock of 78. Smart fielding by White then accounted for Colebourne (32) as Wirksworth ended on 202-3.

Clowne skipper Phil Bennett then made the mistake of altering his batting order and employing a pinch hitter a descision which backfired spectaularly. Matt and Mark Osborne started well hitting a few of lusty blows but both soon fell bowled by Wanford, White followed to a poor and out of character shot heaving across the line and after that Clowne went into freefall poor shot followed poor shot, as batsman after batsman gave away their wicket and Clowne slumped to 53-8. The final straw was a ludicrous run out mix up between Phil Bennett and Russ Doughty which ended the former's 20 over attempt to secure a draw. Clowne left the field a well beaten side.

All in all an awful performance and a poor defeat albeit to a decent side the batting must improve if Clowne are to make any mark this year.
