3rs V Harthill
The 2nds Begin with a Win at West Hallam. 27/04/03
The day dawned with a very heavy shower and a poor forecast for the afternoon. However the morning was fairly bright and the covers were removed, sods law decreed that this was then followed by a downpour. Harthill turned up and we all went and had a look at the soggy wicket. The captains agreed to delay the start and with bright sunshine and a stiff breeze the wicket was playable by 2pm.
Clowne won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jamie Fellows and Matthew Osborne opened the bowling in their usual miserly fashion with 21 runs coming of the first 10 overs with Jamie taking the first wicket in the 5th over.
Matthew Linacre and Josh Womble then took over the attack and even though neither picked up a wicket both continued to bowl tightly with both going for only 2 an over.
Martin Fox and Nick Calvert for Harthill were batting well with Martin getting 47 before finally being bowled by Matthew Osborne in his return spell. Wickets then started to tumble as Harthill tried to up the pace. With Jamie finishing with the impressive figures of 5 wickets for 17 runs off 9 overs.
Harthill finishing on 96 for 6 of 40 overs.
Should be Easy to Knock Them Off!
After a quick tea Clowne began their reply with Phil Bennett and Matthew Osborne opening the batting and racing to 23 off the first 3 overs (Phils quick singles were impressive indeed). However he fell to a catch down the leg side in the 4th over.
Nigel Spencer came to the wicket to carry on where he had left off the day before and finished with 39no being helped to the total of 97 by Matthew Osborne (19), Adam White (18) & Mark Barton (2).
Clowne Town 97 for 4 off 23 overs
A good all round performance from Clowne pick lets hope it continues throughout the season.
