2nds V West hallam
The 2nds Begin with a Win at West Hallam. 26/04/03
On a cloudy day the seconds began their campaign against West Hallam by winning the toss and asking the home side to bat first on a very wet wicket. Opening bowlers Steve Bennett and Jamie Fellows kept a tight reign on scoring but were unable to break through a determined opening pair, Palfreyman in particular proving a difficult proposition and as the bowlers tired he proved especially punishing on anything short. Parsons and then Doughty were brought in to the attack to try an break up the openers and it was Parsons who made the breakthrough having Palfreyman caught smartly at slip by Doughty. With Doughty stuggling having his first bowl for some time he was replaced by Matt Osborne as Clowne's bowlers took control tying the opposition in knots. Parsons was again the wicket taker having Mohammed caught at the third grab by Hendley, two wickets were scant reward for the excellent Parsons as he gave a superb demonstration on how to bowl to a seven/two offside field ending with 14-2-33-2. Fellows and Bennett retuned to the attack and Bennett(13-4-26-2) picked up two quick wickets and Fellows(9-2-21-0) added an excellent run out. West Hallam's innings ended on 132-5 of the 46 overs opener Bostock admirably battling through for 44 not out.
Should be Easy to Knock Them Off!
Clowne's reply got off to a sticky start with Captain Phil Bennett caught behind for 1 off Golding however an excellent patnership of 51 followed with Hendley and Matt Osborne putting the bowling to the sword before Osborne fell for 26 caught and bowled Ling. Graham White joined Hendley and after a steady start the pair pushed the score on to 101 before Hendley fell caught behind to Golding for 40, Mark Osborne followed for a golden duck bowled Golding and Ryan Bennett for 5 caught and bowled J Lockhart as Clowne wobbled. Paul Osborne joined White at the crease and the old heads saw the job done Osborne finishing with 21 and White 30. Golding finishing with the creditable figure of 14-1-31-3.
