Cat takes the Cream in February Pool Competition.
Held on Saturday the 22nd of February
The second pool competition of the year saw a much reduced field of entrants from the first competition. With only 8 players everyone was through to the quarterfinals!! The beer was still being sold at reduced prices so the spectators were also having a good time.
Due to the low numbers it was decided to play the best of three in each round and the first game up saw Adam and Joe the brick wall head to head. The first frame was a close fought battle with Adam just snatching it at the end. The next frame saw Adam going into an early lead but Joe fought back from being 6 balls behind to just losing with one ball left on the table.
Next up were Snips and a guest player, John (Grahams Brother). John had brought his cue out of the loft where it had been resting for the last 10 years. The lack of practice showed in Johns failure to control the cue ball at the end of each frame, going in off when down to the last few balls presenting Snips with easy chances to finish of each frame.
The third battle, Phil B and Paul Linacre saw the first two frames shared with Phil showing his usual tenacity. After a long hard fought battle Paul took the deciding frame to move into the semi finals.
The final quarterfinal had Mark Barton facing the Cat. Mark put up a great fight in the first frame but found himself in a tight situation with Graham having his last ball over the pocket with the black in the open. Undaunted Mark promptly doubled an impossible ball into the pocket cleared his last ball and potted the black to win. The next Frame was again close with Graham just taking it before going on to win the last frame.
The first semi final had Adam against Snips, Snips won the first game easily and looked to have the game in the bag when Adam fouled. With Snips having two shots on the last yellow and then the black it looked all over but he failed to gain position when trying to get the black off the cushion and presented Adam with the frame. The last frame again saw a close fight with again Snips having two shots on the last ball. With Adams final ball blocking the pocket, Snips potted Adams ball but ricocheted into his ball which Knocked in the black, sending Adam into the final.
The next semi was delayed while Paul answered a fire call leaving Graham to sweat it out waiting for his return. The tension or was it the beer had got to Graham, when teetotal Paul took the first frame. Paul obviously became to excited with Graham taking the next two frames to move into the final against his son.
The final saw a grudge match in which father and son would ask for, nor give any quarter. The Cat proved there was life in the old dog yet (excuse the pun) when he gave the Kitten a bit of a lesson in the art of cue ball control to run out a two frame to nil victor.
So all in all it was a great nights entertainment, thanks to all of you who came. We will be holding similar nights in the future so come along next time!
