Under 15s 2002 Season Review

Last season was quite a successful one for the under 15’s, considering the quality of the teams they would be up against. There was: Staveley, who were the 4th best team in England, Chesterfield, Baslow and Hallam not to mention Ashover, A.G.D, Cutthorpe etc. They finished 4th in their league.

There were some notable achievements from individuals. It was a cap-winning season for Adam Wright who bowled his accurate medium pacers gaining confidence as the season progressed. Dale Steers got his first fifty in junior cricket and a five-wicket haul in the same game. There was the selection of Stuart Houghton to be the new wicketkeeper, which has paid dividends to the under 15’s and the 2nd team. Matthew Parker gained experience from opening the batting with Dale. The invaluable opening bowling partnership of Luke Mallon and Dale Steers, whose left arm and right arm quick bowling earned them both over 15 wickets each in the season, and Joseph Kinsey's leg spin, had all the three bowlers produce cap winning performances.

Clowne won 6 games, including a double over Baslow, who a couple of seasons ago won everything.

One batting performance everyone is still talking about is Adam Wright’s 10. Although it was only 10, he came in at no.8 in the 17th over and we were on 62 chasing 84. He just went in and threw everything at it, including a huge shot straight over the bowler’s head, and he still doesn’t know how he did it.

Overall it was a highly successful year, and all the players should take something out of the fact that we played well in most games, and we looked like a team hungry for success. Let’s hope that we find the success we’ve all been waiting for next season.

Also a big thanks should go out to all the parents that got players to away games, and the ones that helped Phil B out in general, and of course John Steers who provided us with brilliant wickets.
