HYTHE FALL AWAY IN FIELD

Hythe and Dibden under11’s suffered yet another defeat on the road this time against Redlynch and Hale under 11’s at Downton Secondary school.

Missing some key players due to a local rugby tournament Hythe fielded an inexperience side against Redlynch and Hale but to there credit they never looked out of the game until the final few overs of the match.

Nathan acting skipper for the day chose to ball 1st in overcast conditions but had to wait till the 3rd over before George Wingate struck in only his 2nd game of the season.

Tight bowling restricted the home side to 210 of 4 overs, Jason and Conner bowling consecutive maidens and Connor taking the 2nd wicket of the innings meant the score only moved up to 220 of 8 overs and things weren’t looking to bad at the half way mark. Redlynch’s third pair also struggled against some good bowling from hythe and only pushed the score to 232 of 12. Josh getting the wicket that kept things tight… it was about to change.

The Redlynch final pair were the big hitters and with one lad twice the size of anybody else on the park , he could certainly swing the bat. Helped by a few wides and the occasional loss of concentration in the field the last pair ammassed a mighty 33 runs between them and finished on 265 of 16 overs . Probably 15 runs more than they should have done…..

Hythes innings started well inform Josh Mead and Chris Griffin put on 19 for the 1st 4 overs and no lost wickets. So 219 of 4 things looking good. Nathan behind the stumps so didn’t bowl today followed with his ever present partner Connor and as usual pussed the score up to 233 of 8 . But for some excellent fielding by the home side it could have easily have been more as many of there singles would normally have been 4’s.

George and the ‘youngster’ Pieter Lever playing only his 2nd game batted next and although didn’t really trouble the scorers to much proved they could defend their wickets against some good straight bowling. With only one out between them the score dropped to 230 of 12 but it was a commendable effort based on the experience they had and the quality of the bowling faced.

Big hitter Richard Lever and Jason Shorto hythes last pair were under orders to have a go at everything but today things didn’t go according to plan and most shots found the fielders and not the ropes as required the score only moved upto 236 of 16 overs and Hythe had lost by 29runs.

Result : REDLYNCH & HALE Won by 29 Runs

Although they lost by such a large amount of runs the difference today was probably Redlynch’s last batting pair who certainly won’t be around next year where as the majority of the Hythe side will be. So coach not disappointed with the result and we will only get better.

Ps Didn’t like playing in a field with no toilet facilities or cover from the rain atleast were at home next week.

July 2nd Vs BASHLEY RYDAL 'B'

Bowled over late on by Bashley B

Closest game of the season was watched by the biggest crowed of the season at Jones lane on Sunday as Bashley B under 11’s were in town.

Nathan Captain again but this time not behind the stumps as a few returned to the fold after their other sporting commitments (shocking behaviour) this week lost the toss and Bashley elected to bat on the astro.

They started well with the 1st pair reaching 217 of the first 4 overs Richard Lever taking a wicket in the 4th over to repair some respectability.

Bashley pushed the score on to 225 of 8 overs the bowlers coming back into it a little restricting the runs and backed up by some good fielding the game was even again.

237 of 12 again kept the game even one wicket falling to Tom smith.

The Bashley innings closed on 249 of 16 overs and Hythes bowlers had done their bit taken wickets at the right times if only we could stop the wides (22 runs this week)

Still 249 to us should be a walk in the park……maybe..

Josh and Tom opened this week and of 2 overs had taken the score to 213 and things looked rosey. Until a single was to quickly shouted “No” and a chance to revolve the strike was missed. A maiden over is bowled and the pressure is back to score runs and what followed in over 4 a wicket for Bashley 209 of 4 overs. Still it’s a positive score and the next pair never disappoint the scorers. Nathan and Connor as a partnership this year have consistently amassed runs and again did not let the side down putting on another 22 runs. 15 off the bat . Game is on score 231 of 8 and cruising…..

Richard Jones and Jason Shorto knew nothing crazy is required and batted sensibly pushed the score to 245 of 12.

5 required to win from 4 overs…

Richard Lever and Chris Griffin come to the crease both very capable of cracking the ball around at will but this is a pressure cooker and wickets keep the visitors in the game. 1st over completed scores tied 249 of 13 phew……. Disaster a wicket goes in the 14th back to 245 and again in the 15th back to 242 . 8 required of the last to win.

Parents nerves are wrecked at this point a 4 is scored ball 2 …. 4 from 4 required…Alas the Bashley bowler only allows a further 2 singles from the last 4 and bowls 6 straight deliveries . Not even a wide to help us out and hythe lose by 1 run…. 1 run…

1 run…. 1 run….. Gutted , absolutely gutted . Not a result we deserved having played so well but congratulations to Basley who didn’t give up when really the writing was on the wall.

A lesson to the team though, if chasing a score down, keep an eye on the scoreboard, so you know what you need at all times.

Great game for the mums and dads this one but it’s always nicer to be on the winning side occasionally in such close games……
