HYTHE SUNDAY XI

July 2nd Vs PHOENIX

Sunday First Got Back To Winning Ways Successfully Chasing Down 210 In Just

34 overs Against Phoenix.

Firstly thanks to Phoenix for filling in with the fixture after Asley pulled out on Thursday evening.

Having only played them a few weeks ago it was good on them to travel to us again.

Toss Won by : Hythe

With Nardus rested this week and Whits having more injury woes, Kev James
and Richie Froggett stepped in as Hythe fielded a strong side.

Winning the toss skipper Richie Bunce inserted Phoenix based mainly on the
previous encounter when Phoenix shut up shop with 12 overs to go, Hythe had
no intention of playing out for a draw and proved a point with an excellent
4 wicket win.

Hythe opening bowlers David Guymer and Tim Bath took a wicket each but
Phoenix batsmen D.Clayton 82 and P.Jones 51* enjoyed Hythe's excellent
batting strip. Hythe rotated their bowlers and stemmed the flow of runs with
Mike Bowman going for just 17 from 6 overs and Lee Powell taking 2-27 in
what turned to be a fine match for the colt who had already taken a two good
catches. By the end of the Phoenix innings their score of 210-6 was a score
Hythe batsmen were confident of chasing.

Kev James opened up with Tom Porter putting on 72 for the first wicket with
James hitting a fine 57, brother Rob 33 and Mike Bowman 23 kept Hythe on
track and Richie Froggett waded in with a quick-fire 15 as Hythe raced to
177-6 from just 31 overs, however with just 5 overs remaining Hythe still
needed 35 but not to worry as Lee Powell 23* having the game of his life
joined Dave Guymer 22* and the two of them knocked off the runs in just 3.5
overs leaving Phoenix shell shocked.
