HYTHE 1ST XI Vs MUDEFORD
HYTHE UPSET THE FORM BOOK IN NAIL BITER
Hythe first team pulled of an excellent win against
high flying Mudeford,
edging home by just one wicket.
Toss Won by : Hythe
Simon Dixon inserted Mudeford on a good batting strip with the
thoughts that
at home Hythe chase well, and so it proved just.
With no Richie Froggett this week Simon Wright shared the new
ball with
Nardus and both started well with Wright striking in the 8th over
as
Mudeford struggled to 27-1, shortly afterwards Ben Kendrick after
replacing
Nardus struck and then as Mudeford reached 58-2 Paul Whitlock who
had
replaced Simon snapped up two quick wickets and the returning
Grobler who
had snapped up a fine slip catch for Whitlock also got in on the
act as
Hythe looked to take control at 60-5. Unfortunately a combination
of things
perhaps going to well and players in the heat switching off
suddenly led to
a Mudeford revival with Whitlock unluckily suffering the most
with dropped
catches and fielding errors. To the credit of all under the
circumstances
and esp. the bowlers who worked tirelessly in stifling conditions
Hythe
fought back again good catches were held by Luke Mills &
David Guymer as
Kendrick took another two wickets, Whitlock adding his third and
Grobler his
second, and at 116-8 Hythe should have wrapped up the innings but
a 55 8th
wicket partnership and some late scrambled runs as Hythe's
fielders
struggled took Mudeford up to a handy 186-9.
In reply the James boys got Hythe off to a flyer as Hythe posted
38 in just
over 7 overs, before Rob fell for 27, unfortunately Simon Dixon
was run out
following a mix up but Kev James and Wright took the score past
50 before
both fell as Hythe stumbled to 53-4, Ben Kendrick and Dave Guymer
set about
the rebuilding of the innings and both looked in fine form
striking
boundaries aplenty, before Guymer fell for a well made 24 at
94-5. Nardus
joined Ben at the wicket and again Hythe scored freely Kendrick
was now
looking like a match winner and Hythe got to 137 before Grobler
was
unluckily bowled for 15. Whits joined Kendrick and another
partnership
started to take effect but just as Hythe looked to be in complete
control
Ben fell for a superb 60 and Hythe were still 32 runs short. Much
depended
now on Whitlock guiding the tail at 162 Alan Taylor fell for 1
but Whitlock
determined not to see another close game slip through Hythe
fingers hit
important boundaries at just the right time and found support
from Russell
Moore and before long Whitlock who scored a fine 23 drew Hythe
level before
unbelievably he was run out with just the 1 to win but Moore
scored the all
important single next ball and Hythe were home with 5 ball to
spare.
