MIDWEEK TOUR MATCH
28th June Vs TWYFORD HOUSE ( BRISTOL )
Forget the result. This game reminded us why we take touring sides. Ninteen guys on tour who played the game in the right spirit, a lot of fun, and supported our bar takings very well.
As for the game the Hythe lads did very well against a stronger Twyford batting outfit.
What Hythe missed was a couple of first team top order batsam which would have evened up the strengths a bit more.
Twyford batted first and made 251 for 8 off their 40 overs and in reply Hythe made 225 all out.
Thanks to Gary & Ann Howe for looking after the oppositon whilst we played.
Toss: Won by Twyford House
Twyford won the toss and elected to bat first in a 40 overs a side match.
Richie Froggett captain for the day opened the bowling with Nardus Grobler at the top end and Nirmal Joy ( making his first appearance for Hythe ) coming up the hill.
Twyford got off to a strong start hitting 47 off the first 9 overs. Joy was struggling to find his line and length until in the 10th over he had Fowler caught in the guly by Froggett for 20.
A double bowling change in the 13th over saw Russell Moore and Steve Chiverton come into the attack. With his second ball Chiverton had Moore bowled for 6 and Twyford were 79 for 2 off 14.
In the next 8 overs Hythe began to get on top of the game as Twyford went from 79 for 2 to 104 for 6 as both Chiverton and Moore took two wickets a piece. Moore finished a fine spell of bowling 2-24 off 6
Thats as good as it got for Hythe as in came S.Byas and A.Mercer who soon got to work on carting Chiverton and Mills and White around the ground or out of the ground.
They shared in a stand of 126 in just 13 overs with Mercer hitting 20 and Byas 102 which included 10 fours and 7 sixes. One of his sixes landed in the Police Station.
Rich Froggett came on at the end and bowled Byas and Mercer and finished with 2-23 off 3 whilst Nardus Grobler bowled with a lot of pace throughout and finished with the tidy figures of 0-24 off 9.
Twyford finished on 251 for 8 off their 40 overs.
It was going to be a tall order and Hythe relied on Sean Tongs and Matt Howe to again get them off to a good start.
After 11 overs Hythe were 47 for 1 and looking good but then Smith had Howe caught by Moore for 19.
Alan Taylor ( playing his second game since knee surgery ) joined Tongs in the middle and patiently got himself settled in.
Hythe were 76 for 1 off 17 overs and then Tongs was Bowled by Baynton for 39.
Froggett joined Taylor but two overs later Taylor was out for 17 after hitting 3 fours trying to up the tempo. 94 for 3.
Froggett looked in good nick ntil he was caught by Reed off Neville for 14 and 110 for 4 off 24.
At this point Twyford decided to share their bowling around and James Page 7 batted sensibly until he was run out by Grobler delaying before going on a second run. 132 for 5 off 28 and one over later Hythe were 152 for 6. Hazzard had Grobler caught first ball of the over for 13 and then had 20 runs taken off the rest of his over.
Joy was enjoing his first knock for Hythe and found the short boundary to his liking. A quick partnership of 26 was broken when Mills was caught for 4 and Hythe were 158 for 7. Chalky White joined Joy and they shared a partnership of 48 for the 8th wicket.
Hythe were 208 for 7 with 5 overs to go when Joy tried to hit Moore out the ground and was bowled for 37 and next ball Russell Moore was bowled and Hythe were 208 for 9 game almost over. Joys knock included 5 fours and one six
Chalky White was not finished though as the second team skipper, Mike Bowman looked on. He blasted three more fours to knock up his highest innings for Hythe of 40 not out.
Chiverton was bowled for 4 with four balls remaining and Twyford had won by 26 runs.
