TWENTY20 GAME
21th June Vs FAWLEY
Fawley maintained their strangle hold over Hythe this season with a 6 wicket win in this the first Twenty20 game between the sides.
Hythe batted first after winning the toss and set Fawley a target of 130 to win which in theory was twenty runs light of what they wanted.
Fawley got home on the first ball of the last over but on a chilly evening it was a good game played in the right spirit.
Thanks to Sue Froggett for the barbeque as well
Toss Won by Hythe
Richie Froggett won the toss and elected to bat first.
In form ' Guru ' Sean Tongs opened the batting with Nardus Grobler hoping to get Hythe off to a good start.
Tongs didn't disappoint as he hit 12 off the first over and 25 off the first two overs.
Just what Hythe were looking for but the bubble burst in the third over when Grobler was bowled for 1. Next over and they were 28 for 2 as Kev James was out for 0.
Two overs later and Hythe were 40 for 3 off 6 as Alderman was out for 7. Mike Bowman then joined Tongs and they looked comfortable picking up the singles as the field moved further out. Tongs was next to go for 31 and Hythe were in trouble at 46 for 4 off 8.
Richie Froggett then joined Bowman in a 41 run partnership before Froggett was out for 19 an innings which included 3 fours. Hythe at that stage were 83 for 5 off 13
Robbie James came to the crease and looked in good nick. But just as the pair were getting going Bowman was run out for a valuable 23, - Hythe 98 for 6 off 15 overs. Dave Guymer didn't stay long he was bowled for 3 but then Matt Howe 10 joined Rob James 23* and they took the score to 129 before Howe was run out on the last ball of the innings
Hythe 129 for 8 off 18 overs and Fawley require 6.5 an over to win.
Game on as the clouds got darker - hence Froggett held himself and Grobler back until it was even darker.
Froggie decided to open with Punchey Mills. Poor old punchey so use to warming up all afternoon on a Sunday whilst his mates bat, couldn't get into his rythem and went for 17 off his first four balls.( Don't worry mate we all have those days and we know your better than that.) Then on the fifth a big wicket - Dave Streather ( average in county 1 - 39.81 ) well caught by Tongs in the deep. Four off the last and Fawley were 21 for 1 off 1 over.
Dave Guymer came on at the bottom end and bowled Hickman for 3 and Fawley were 25 for 2. Wayne Smith and the impressive Ash Uvaise then took the score to 45 before Smith was very well caught above his head by Robbie James off the bowling of Chiverton.
Chiverton went for 25 off his four overs and Guymer 32 as Fawley took the score to 79 for 3 off 9 overs.
At this stage with the visitors well on top, it was getting much harder to see the ball as dark clouds loomed over the ground.
'Just the right time' says Richie to bring on myself and Grobler onto bowl. Both bowlers bowled well without having any luck.
But what they did do was bring Hythe back into the game. Froggett went for just 20 off his 4 overs which included a big 6 by Uvaise. Grobler was even tighter and went for just 17 runs off 4.
Fawley 119 for 3 needing 11 to win off 2 overs. Robbie James comes onto bowl from the top end and what a good over only two singles coming from it but a wicket R.Leech caught behind by Kev James. 121 for 4.
The penultimate over on comes Tongsy.Four wides but otherwise a tidy over - only 5 in total from the over and atleast we take them to the final over 126 for 4 off 19 overs and 4 to win.
Rob James to bowl the last, Froggie brings in the field but off the first ball Earl hits through mid wicket for four and Fawley continue their strangle hold on Hythe this season.
