SUNDAY / FRIENDLY CRICKET.

June 18th Sunday XI Vs PHOENIX

Hythe halted a three run losing streak with a draw against Phoenix on Sunday.

Buncey fielded a strong side and despite Paul Whitlock pulling out with a hamstring, Robbie James was able to replace.

Had the visitors been more positive then we could have had a tight finish.

Toss Won by Hythe

Batting first Mike Bowman and Dave Guymer scored freely and both of them
looked well set for big scores before both giving it away in the twenties,
S. Miller contributed 11 but a mid order wobble at 89-5 left Russell Moore
and Nardus Grobler to get the score up and running and the two took the
score to 126 before Grobler was run out for 18, young Moore though was now
looking well set, a quick fire 10 by Tim Bath followed before another of
Hythe's younger players Matt Howe joined Moore in an unbeaten 43 run
partnership which enabled Moore to bring up a maiden senior team 50 as he
finished 51 not out with Howe 25 not out with Hythe posting a competitive
186.

Phoenix put on 23 for their first wicket before Richard Bunce broke through
in a fine spell of 1-19 and shortly afterwards the erratic Tim Bath struck
twice as Phoenix slipped to 38-3 soon afterwards Luke Mills and Matt Howe
both picked up a wicket each and when Mills took his second Phoenix were in
trouble at 84-6 and Hythe were striving for victory however a stubborn
partnership from Smith & Clayton frustrated the home side, but surprisingly
after getting Phoenix back in the game they made no effort in the final 10
overs to chase the Hythe score contently finishing on 146-6, shame as this
should have been a good finish.

Match drawn.
