HYTHE SUNDAY XI VS WESSEX EXILES

Sunday 11th June

Toss : Won by Hythe

With an abundance of players to choose from Richie Bunce welcomed back Tim Bath and gave a debut to Lee Devaney.

Mike Bowman, Paul Whitlock and Matt Howe were all rested.

Hythe batted first and struggled early on against some tight Exiles bowling,
and just as Rob James looked to break free he was dismissed for 16, Dave
Guymer completed a misserable weekend with the bat when he was caught out
for 0 off what looked like a deadball (when its not going for you) and young
Russell Moore followed him back shortly for just 1, Ewan Bell batted well
for 33 before he fell at 56-4 and not long after Lee Devaney went for 0 and
S. Miller for 7 and Hythe were struggling at 72-6, Tongs and Grobler staged
a recovery putting on 54 before Tongs fell for 33, the skipper R. Bunce 8
helped take Hythe to nearly 150 and Grobler finally fell for a fine 48
leaving Mills and Bath to get Hythe to 162, probably 20 - 25 short of what
we would have hoped for.

Hythe bowlers needed to make early in-roads and Tim Bath struck with the
score at 30, but despite some tight bowling from Richie Bunce the Exiles
were on track for a comfortable win. Steve Miller gave Hythe some hope with
an excellent spell taking 2-17 and when Luke Mills chipped in with a wicket
the Exiles had slipped to 97-4 but unfortuntely Hythe could not then
capitilaise on this as C. Kershaw 81* took the Exiles past 150 before
Grobler struck late on, but it was all a bit to late as the Exiles got home
by 5 wickets with 4 overs to spare.

Innings of : HYTHE 162 for 9
