28th May Vs CALMORE SPORTS

Toss Won by : Hythe

Hythe's rising start recorded their second win of the season at Calmore on Sunday and went about it in an impressive way that pleased coach Richie Froggett.

After a more defensive display two weeks ago against Lymington, Hythe's captain Charlie Crane won the toss and elected to bat on a very wet wicket.

His openers did the captain proud with new bot Chris Griffin showing no nerves as he and his partner Kieran Chalmers amassed a steady 15 runs off their 4 overs for the loss of the only hythe wicket to fall all innings.

The old stagers Connor McKell and Nathan Froggett seemd to have found a winning formula to batting and great running between the wickets. Nathan hit a boundary and the pair followed up the good start with a partnership of 20 off their four overs which is the largest partnership so far this season.

Skipper Charlie Crane and Tom Smith were Hythe's 3rd pair and Smith was in particulary good form finishing highest run scorer of the day with 9 runs. The score after 12 overs was 252 for 1 as wicky Richard Jones and Jason Short came to the crease. Calmores attack stepped up a notch and both batsman found it difficult to get the ball away. Jason who has showed signs of being a the best strokemaker in practice only faced 6 balls out of 24 but seemed only to find the fielders with his shots. The guys stuck at it and gave nothing away as the team ended on 161 for 1 off their 16 overs.

Hythes bowlers were miserly straight away, Jason taking the first wicket in only the third over, which meant that Calmores first pair finished on 205 off 4 overs. Calmores second pair showed signs of recovery as they played some good shots and ran well between the wicket. They improved the score to 222 off 8 overs. But in the next four overs Hythe's bowlers were to regain control of the match with Tom and Charlie taking wickets at a crucial stage, and reduce the score to 221 off 12 overs.

The final pair entered the game but could not get the ball away and Kieran bowling the last over finished the game with two more wickets to make his dad smile and finish with the figures of 2 wickets for 5 runs off 3 overs.

An impressive performance by the under 11's who batted well as a team for the first time this season and the bowling was as dangerous as ever.
