SUNDAY XI Vs FAWLEY

Hythe travelled upto Fawley to play their closest rivals without seven regulars due to unavailability and fete duty.

Hythe won the toss and surprisingly decided to bat. Ewan Bell 25 and Russell Moore started brightly and put on 33 for the first wicket.

Hythe then lost wickets in quick succession and only Dave Guymer 30 and Nardus Grobler 16 batting at 9 put up any real resistance. The innnings finished on 121 all out which was always going to be a hard total to defend.

In reply Fawley opened with the experience of John Church 51* and Wayne Smith 27 and despite a good spell of 8 overs from Nardus Grobler Fawley only lost the one wicket which was caught by young Lee Powell off the bowling Guymer whose 6 overs only went for 15 runs.

Fawley won by 9 wickets and got home with 13 runs to spare for an easy win. Hythe will be hoping to gain revenge in the Twenty -20 match at Jones Lane in 3 weeks time.
