27th - 28th May Week 4 League Season

WEEK 4 - LEAGUE SEASON -Saturday 27th May

After two hours of hard graft by the Hythe bowlers the First XI match with Alton was abandoned because of the weather. Down at Hythe the Second XI recorded their first win of the season with a 20 run win over Bransgore II.

HYTHE 1ST XI Vs ALTON II

Toss : Won by Hythe

On a very damp pitch Simon Dixon won the toss and elected to field.

Runs were always going to be hard to get with the outfield so wet and Hythe picked up a very early wicket thanks to Grobler.

Both opening bowlers Grobler and Richie Froggett bowled very tight and gave very little away and after 20 overs Alton only had 53 on the board.

Hythes fielding wasn't at its best as the slippery conditions made it difficult to support the fine work from the bowlers.

Dixon then introduced Paul Whitlock and Simon Wright to the attack and both beat the bat on several occasions. Whitlock did manage to pick up two well deserved wickets for his efforts and also had a simple catch dropped in the slips by the skipper.

Robbie James also dropped a dolly as Wright had to wait till his eleventh over to get a wicket. His bowling efforts were far better than his figures showed, and he also picked up two fine catches before the players went off after 41 overs with the score on 152 for 5.

The Hythe team especially the bowlers can be praised for a good performance in difficult conditions. Would they have got the runs - difficult to say but not many teams will reduce Alton to that sort of score this season.

HYTHE 2nd XI Vs BRANSGORE II

Toss Won by : Bransgore

Hythe were put on a damp slow wicket and all the top three batsman got into double figures but failed to get a big score.

Hythe were indebted to Gary Howe 55 supported late on by 24* from Pete Stevens and 10* from Tony Wood to amass a useful score of 155 for 6 from their 42 overs.

The Bransgore reply was going well until the interruption of rain with them on 31 for 0 from 7 overs.

On the return to the middle Bransgore were set the revised target of 110 from 25 overs which seemed well in their grasp.

But Mike Bowman then played his trump cards by turning to those wiley old foxes Pete Stevens and Chalky White. Supported by some fine fielding Bransgore collapsed to 90 all out with Stevens taking 3 for 19 and White 4 for 39.

Steve Miller and Tom Porter produced two good run outs and in cold conditions the first team would have benefited by seeing well taken catches from Matt Howe, Richie Bunce and Gary Howe behind the stumps.

So a good win for Hythe and hopefully the first of many.

Innings of : HYTHE 153 for 6 ( 42 overs )
