Sunday 23th March 2013

The Guru & Sam Mead were in destructive mood as Hythe powered their way to a 41 run win over Michelmersh & Timsbury 'B'.

Gareth for a change lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Mead senior opened with Sean Tongs and 10 came of the first over. After a first ball single in the 2nd over Gareth was wery well caught off the wall by Arthur off the bowling of Tubb for 5. Uni Mead joined the action hitting the last ball of the over for four. A good over by Howard saw just 6 come off the 3rd over Mead hit Brooks for four in a 10 run 4th over - Hythe 32 for 1 after 4.

Kendle came on to bowl the 5th over much to the surprise of the balcony. Their thoughts seemed justified when the first two balls went for wides. Tongs then hit a six and four - 17 off the over. Nine came off Arthur's 6th over as the wides started to pile up. Another good over by Tubb saw just 2 come off the 7th over. Howard returned for the 8th - a Tongs boundary followed two wides - 12 off the over - Hythe 73 for 1 off 8.

An eventful 9th over from Brooks saw Guru hit a four 7 six to retire 25* @ 86 for 1. Bryers hit his first ball for a no ball six (9 runs) but next ball he was superbly caught & bowled. Hythe 95 for 2 off 9. Howard bowled the 10th which saw 16 added and Sam Mead retire @ 99 for 2. McCarthy was run out for 5 in the 11th which saw just 1 run come from Arthurs over. The final over saw another 22 added as Sean Tongs returned to hit 2x6's before being run out for 38. Sam Mead hit the final ball for four - Hythe 134 for 4. Josh Mead 1*.

M&T had it all to do and were relying on skipper Holland for a good start. Two boundaries off Kev McCarthy's first over appeared good enough. 2nd over Josh Mead proved to quick Brooks and he was bowled for 0 - just a wide 3 coming from the over. Sam Mead joined the attack - Howard hit him for four but a decent over 5 off and a wicket - Tongs taking a good overhead catch to dismiss Holland for 13. McCarthy then went for 4 singles and a wide before bowling Arthur with the last ball of the 4th over - M&T 24 for 3 off 4.

Bryers (looking like a mini Saunders with shirt hanging out) joined the attack to bowl the 5th - Tubb hit a boundary but just 6 off the bat. 11 came off Sam Meads 6th over - M&T 42 for 3 at the half way stage. An excellent over by Bryers saw just 3 singles off the 7th over. Josh Mead returned for the 8th but the wind must of changed and a loss of direction as 3 wides and a no ball came off a 14 run over. Big brother pulled things back in the 9th - just 4 off. M&T's 63 for 3 off 9.

Bryers final over went for 13 inc 2 Tubb 4's. Josh Mead the bowled a good 6 run penultimate over. A Tubbs 4& 6 off McCarthy saw him retire with 1 ball remaining of the innings for 29*. Kendle came in for the last ball and ran himself out. M&T's 93 for 4 at the close.

Hythe winning by 41 runs with their fielding far superior than their opponents. Their bowlers all put in good shiufts. Sam Mead's 1-16 the best figure wise but younger brother was the most unluckiest.

Now for the big challenge - Bramshaw 'A' in the semi-finals next week.
